I worry about the trends - he really hasn't improved dramatically year over year from his rookie season (in the regular season). On the other hand he has been very good in the playoffs (although I wouldn't call it an improvement year over year).

I also worry about the fragility of Beal. Averaging 64 games per year - but he was there in the playoffs.

So, I think there are contradictory trends - and I think that equals risk.

I can live with him continuing to work on that midrange shot. I just wish he wouldn't take it unless there was less than 5 seconds on the shot clock. I hate when he takes that shot early.

Right? Stay within the offense, try to get that 3 pointer - and only get the long 2 if you have to late in the shot clock.

Beal reacts to Wizards losing Pierce: Will miss him, but now the enemy

Paul Pierce did not make a tremendous impact with the Wizards in the 2014-15 regular season, but he certainly did in the playoffs, and his presence was not lost on Washington guard Bradley Beal. Now headed home to play for the Clippers, Pierce is no longer in the picture for the Wizards, and while Beal will miss the former Celtic, the Wizards are ready to move on too.

"It's unfortunate Paul left," Beal told CSN's Chris Miller. "We understand his situation."

Beal continued: "We wish him nothing but the best, it was cool to play with a future Hall of Famer."

Then the tone changed, slightly, and Beal made clear his focus is on the Wizards winning in 2015.

"He's the enemy now," Beal said of Pierce.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

MORE NBA: EMOJI WARS!

Oh yeah...

Really looking forward to seeing Beal this year. This is the year for take over. Year 4.. two 2nd round playoff appearances. He is ready to arrive.

"We have to step up," Beal said. "We can do it."

Plus is X college coach is in the league now. Coaching the team that has the player the Wizards want.

Plus is a contract year...

Ohh ohh.. This could be special.

That stepback three is what will put him in the Klay Thompson-caliber of averaging 20+ ppg. Beal had a slow trigger on that shot in the past, if he's able to get it off with that ^ kind of quickness he is going to be deadly not just in 3pt accuracy but volume.

As long as he keeps shooting at 40%+, Beal should have the greenlight to pullup for 6-8 3pt attempts every game.

He looks great with his shirt off. Oubre has some competition for sexiest Wizard.

I'd really like for him to work on pump faking on that stepback and then drawing the foul.

He shows that step back in the playoffs on the left side.

But dribble pump fakes and step backs off of that.... Those are Truth moves. And as mentioned, they will really help him with his slower release. Not like Paul had a lighten fast release but he used these types of moves to get space..

And that's why they brought him here.

That's a college three point line. Those are stepbacks into 20-footers -- exactly the shot we want Bradley perfecting!!

SOMEBODY STAB ME

SLAM: You love shooting the midrange jumper, even though that’s an unpopular shot in today’s NBA. Is that something you’re going to keep doing?

BB: That’s definitely a shot that, even though a lot of people in the NBA don’t like, I’m going to continue to work on it. It’s an open shot and I think you’re probably more open shooting that shot than a lot of other shots. It’s just about being able to get the mechanics down and the rhythm down and being able to knock it down.

SLAM: Has the team ever told you to stop taking them?

BB: Not really, nah. They just let me play my game. Coach Wittman loves those shots. He wants you to shoot ever

It'd be fine if he loved the mid range if he was actually good at making them lol.

Good high volume scorers need to be good at scoring from midrange unless they are Bigs or first rate bull artists like Harden.

The whole floor has to be an option. The major hole in Beal's scoring toolkit to date is the lack of a polished and diverse mid range game. He needs to get those Pierce-like step backs in his in game arsenal. He needs to be able to pump fake and dribble inside the three point line and shoot the pull up like Pierce too. And he needs to be able to come off high screens and nail that elbow pull up and that floater like John learned how to do. If he gets good scoring from these spots, he could jump up to averaging mid 20's PPG. There is already so much he does well: shooting of screens, hitting set shots from anywhere from thee point land, shooting trailing threes, finishing strong when he takes it inside and scoring in transition. Plus he's a good passer. Just a few tools away from being one of the best SGs in the league.

Brad will probably do what Kawhi did and not visit other teams or sign offer sheets in FA. Then sign his 5 year contract.

Unlike Kawhi he can only sign for a max 4 years, not 5 (because of Wall)

Interesting. If Beal signs a contract similar to Matthews' contract, then it's a steal, especially since he could get $7 million more simply by waiting until next offseason. Maybe that's why Ernie is so hesitant to get something done, Beal's market is set, maybe his agent knows that.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.
