OT: Detroit based player Ray McCallum Jr. goes to SPURS

Post#1 » by vic » Thu Jul 9, 2015 1:06 pm

Great news, really happy for Ray McCallum... he leaves the most chaotic unstable org in the league for the most stable, well-run professional in the NBA. He just got traded from the Sacramento Kings to the San Antonio SPURs.

Mark my words he will go down as one of the steals of his draft and probably will be in their big 3 as Tony Parker ages and retires. Team situation and fit is everything in bball, and Ray was a severely underrated player. I think he will blossom for the Spurs. Spurs just got another lo-key steal for the next decade.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

I can't wait to see the (lack of) spacing with Rondo / Gay / Cousins / WCS

I think it can be both. I wish Stan and co would have identified the fish at the table and exploited them. Philly and the Spurs ripped them off completely this off-season - the offered to save out ass last season with their trade interest in Smoove to boot.

Going from the toxic organization to an absolute best organization is quite a leap.

I think he's going to flourish.

I'm sure Ray is elated. He will probably turn into Parker's replacement, knowing how great the Spurs player development.

Maybe we'll overpay for him in a few years once Pop and Parker are done grooming him

we'll clamor to bring him back home to Detroit for 20M a year.

That was my thoughts on this move. Spurs know what they're doing.

Whether Ray is Parker's ultimate replacement remains to be seen, but the Spurs know how to spot promising young players. If nothing else they get him into the system at very reasonable cost and can see if he is able to add to their depth. Spurs are a consistently competent franchise.

I often wonder how the Spurs would be viewed if they landed at #2 and didn't get Tim Duncan

Would they have taken Keith Van Horn? Billups? McGrady? Mercer?
