Nice. Top of my list guy, and:

Jeremy Lin announced just hours before NBA players can sign contracts that he will join the Charlotte Hornets. A source confirmed to ESPN.com that the contract is for Charlotte’s biannual exception — two years and $4.3 million. – via ESPN.com

I was holding off as there were reports of MLE, but if this is really two years at 4.3 mil total, wow, just wow. Would love it if that is two years fixed, but my guess is that Lin negotiated a second year player option so that he can opt into the FA money grab then. Still not 100% clear if it's 4.3 per, or? Blackout?

The Bi-Annual is only worth $2,139,000, add on a second year at the max 4.5% raise and it comes out to $4,374,255 in total.

Year 1: $2,139,000
Year 2: $2,235,255

What's interesting to me is that we didn't opt to use part of the MLE instead. The MLE can be used every year, but the Bi-Annual can only be used once every two years (so we won't have it next year). Makes me think there's still a plan for the MLE.

Deal keeps getting better. I would have been happy with 4.3 annually.

I'm still lost on why he took so little money. Extremely happy, but confused.

I think he's making a huge statement whether intentionally or not to show what he's willing to sacrifice to play in a system that suits his style of play and for a coach that believes in him.

I definitely see a more positive long-term relationship. I was afraid of him signing with the Mavs which seemed more like a 1 year rental situation.

Lakers fan and Lin fan here, but based on the East Coast. Glad that I can finally watch his games on East Coast time instead of staying up until midnight for Lakers games! I hope to root on the Hornets as well! Here's my take on the pros and cons of Lin.

Pros:

High character: Selfless player, hard worker, great teammate, fantastic community involvement
Stats: If given 32 minutes/game and a major role, he'll get you around 13-15PTs, 6/7 asts, 44%FG, 80%FT, 36% 3PT
Blocks well for a guard
Great at first step, pick and rolls, set shots, driving, finishing, and drawing fouls
Can get hot and score in bunches
Is a 4th quarter player, meaning he likes to feed his teammates first and then be more active in the 4th

Cons:

Can get down on himself (when he was benched on the Lakers in favor of Ronnie Price, he played terrible for a few weeks)
Individual defense is mediocre -- he get caught in picks and screens easily when he should be going underneath the pick
He overhelps on defense a lot -- sometime it works and he gets steals but other times his man is left too wide open
He still has a habit of jumping in the air before passing, which leads to turnovers

What does this mean for the Hornets? Lin will be fantastic if the offense is high tempo, uses lots of pick and rolls, and he has the trust of management and the coach. Not sure how he'll fit with Al Jefferson but he shouldn't have any problems feeding him. One concern is that it doesn't seem like the Hornets have a good defensive anchor (Kaminsky maybe?) nor an above-the-rim dunker for PnRs. Another concern is how he plays with Kemba Walker. Lin is most effective with the ball in his hands and didn't fit well with high usage players like Harden and Kobe, and to a lesser extent Melo.

I have a feeling that the Kemba bashers are going to try to find a way to turn me against Lin, but I won't allow it. I've already seen enough ignorant statements on Twitter. However, great signing. Lin was the best fit point guard on the open market for the Hornets to sign and they landed him at a beyond a bargain of a price

You get one of the best 6th man in the league with a great locker room attitude & work ethnic. At 2 million per, i think this is the best FA signing in this year's FA.

2 mil for a PG that finish in the top 20 for both DRPM & ORPM. Pretty amazing stuff..

OK, I don't know what I was thinking. It looks like the Hornets style of play from last year was slow ball, rebounding, tough D, and limit turnovers. Not the ideal environment for Lin but he should be able to contribute here as well.

I don't think it's ever about the money with Lin.
Seem like a lot of people are under the assumption he went to Houston for the money. It was never the case. It's been reported he turned down millions in endorsement so he could focus more on the game.

First I was sorry to hear of your recent passing. However, the fact that your ghost remains with us here on RealGM is comforting.

In any case - agreed - assuming that Fat Albatross starts (he will), Lin is not a great fit for our first unit. However in a backup role, he may find himself in a great situation. The team has completely been made over and he will likely be playing minutes with Jeremy Lamb, Spencer Hawes, Frank Kaminsky, etc. Lots of shooters, lots of spacing.

When I saw "Welcome to Charlotte Jeremy Lin" I thought it was a hypothetical exercise and just stared at the thread just to make sure I read the title correctly. Then I clicked in the thread to see a tweet or something and saw the Facebook speculation. I was really in shock. It didn't register with me for a while that we got THEE guy I wanted most with our severely limited flexibility.

You will have to adjust his predicted stats to take into account the Bobcats/Hornets factor. Everyone that comes here sees their FG% and 3PT% drop. Lower that FG% to 41% and that 3PT% to 34%
