Smart move by Kanter. Didn't see it coming but makes alot of sense for both of them.

So Portland has like $25 mil in cap space, let's say. Can they offer him a contract starting at like $20 mil just to screw with OKC?

Of course Portland is the one to put an offer up. Not sure I'm on board with matching but I don't see them letting him walk.

Mavs were never going after him anyways.

I'm guessing Portland pulls a Dallas and gives him a contract they can't match.

Better make it a max. Anything less and OKC will surely match.

Zach Lowe @ZachLowe_NBA
OKC is just about $2.5M under the tax, so a max deal for Kanter would cost them nearly $40M.

How many centers do Blazers have on their roster now? 6?

Kaman
Leonard
Ed Davis
Plumlee
Joel Freeland
Enes Kanter

If I were OKC, I'd pass on matching a max. It's not like Kanter puts you over the top. Ibaka/Adams can hold down the frontcourt duties. McGary is on the comeup and there are still some FA scrub bigmen left out there at the min you could entice instead of overpaying for Kanter.

This is where the Harden decision affects a completely unrelated move because I'm sure OKC doesn't want to appear of just letting Kanter walk for nothing when one can say, you guys gave up nothing to even acquire him in the 1st place.

KD, GOATbrook & Ibaka leading you to the chip, adding in Kanter, imo, is a push. Let him walk if the deal is egregious.

good move for portland. guy's only 23 and is one of the big men scorers in the league. pretty good rebounder too. 14 mil sounds about right.

Kaman is an expiring. Ed Davis is garbage and a journeyman. Plumlee is a backup. Meyers Leonard is better as a 4 man and Freeland is a free agent.

I guess it doesn't hurt to give him a try. He's young and talented. Out defense is ting to be reprehensible though.

Okc has to match or Durant walks, right?

He was a good luxury piece.. and intriguing bc of his youth.. but if its a ridiculous offer.. id pass. McGary is ready, and contributes in ways Kanter never will. All they wll endup doing is losing McGary down the line for an inferior all-around player(in a few years)
