No sense of urgency
Why is it that the Nuggets F.O. has no sense of urgency. They waited until the last minute to get a coach, they haven't even touched free agency yet....Realistically I know they don't have a lot of money to spend and the free agency they've targeted (Nelson, Barton, Arthur) aren't in high demand but still, I know it keeps me on pins and needles especially watching other teams secure their teams.... why do we sit back and watch, are we waiting to see what's bargains are at the bottom of the barrel ?

Re: No sense of urgency
Why get in a hurry, we have no money to even sign a free agent outside of the LLE, Jokic will take most or all of the MLE, Barton they are probably trying to figure out market value on with the crazy deals out there, and Nelson only wants to come back if Lawson is traded now that they drafted Mudiay. As for Arthur, I think his asking price is still pretty high for what we need, or he wants assurances of playing time and there is not much room in the front court right now.
The thing is I still want to see what this roster can do with a competent coach, and I am sure they are torn in the front office as well, still trying to decide what they want to do compared to the offers out there. Plus Josh has been busy with the AVs, they have been going nuts in that front office.

Re: No sense of urgency
Well, to me, the lack of urgency shows to other players and other teams that winning in the NBA isn't really a priority for our FO. Hiring a coach under 10 days before the draft seems it indicate to players the lack of importance, as noted by several players during their workouts. Not one free agent was even invited saying we aren't ready (willing ?) to compete (so I guess we are tanking). Even with the Lawson situation, their lack of aggressiveness has dried up the trade market for Ty.
I do see the erring on the side of caution approach, but how does this come across to the players, free agents, etc ? To me it just emphasizes the fact we a small market team who can't or won't play with the big boys.....

Re: No sense of urgency
I would agree that they should have moved on the coach a lot sooner, however I think the biggest problem is that there are too many voices in the front office, and they do not agree on direction.
Right now it is
Stan Kroenke
Josh Kroenke
Bret Bearup
Tim Connelly
Pete D'Allesandro
that have all been rumored to have input into how things are ran with the Nuggets, and that is not including Malone, who I would assume has some kind of input. I am sure that they all have different things in mind with what should happen with the roster, but at the end of the day the current direction is not all that bad. They have added Nurkic, Harris, Barton, Jokic, and Mudiay to a youngish roster, and have a ton of room to grow, plus they get the better of the Knicks or Nuggets pick next year, why do something just to do it, when you already are young and you already have big potential on the roster? how many young players do you think they can develop?
People are right this team is not ready to contend, and after the way half the roster quit not many big names want to get involved with that situation. However we knew ahead of time that the Nuggets were not going to do much in free agency, why would they? The only real hole on the roster is at starting SG, but they have Foye on the roster, they have Barton who they want to resign, and they have Harris and Mudiay who have cost them 2 1st round picks in the last 2 years, all of whom can and probably will play SG. Outside of that the roster is packed, with at least a solid starter and a young backup to develop, especially with them reportedly having Jokic coming over and Barton expected to be resigned.
If any big changes are made it will be through trade, the next couple of days start one big trade period as teams figure out the holes they could not fill through the draft and free agency, then there is one around training camp into the 1st week of the season, then the trade deadline, and of course the draft. That is when most trades seem to get done, right now we have a long summer ahead as teams try to fill out their roster.
Who would you have liked to see them sign that is somewhat realistic? Who did they miss out on that would be an upgrade over the current starter on the roster? Right now teams are just starting to sign guys who are projected as bench guys, so you need a clear upgrade on the roster that the Nuggets could have gotten in free agency.
Look at the projected roster,
Lawson/ Mudiay/ Green
Foye/ Harris/ Barton/ Franklin
Gallo/ Chandler/ Barton
Faried/ Lauvergne/ Hickson
Nurkic/ Jokic
They really only even have 1 empty roster slot, and that should go to a veteran center that can teach the young guys the tricks of playing in the NBA. Those guys go for minimum usually toward the end of July.

Re: No sense of urgency
I can't be the only one that's glad that we have no cap space right now.
Really need to look at things from all perspectives. The moment teams weren't willing to sell the farm for Lawson was when we lost a lot of flexibility to make some significant roster changes.
Hell there's even a chance that Foye won't be here as from my belief, if we decline his option we will get under the cap.
Also I expect our starting backcourt to be Lawson-Mudiay on season opener (Phoenix Suns style).

No I said going into free agency that contracts were going to be crazy and that I was glad we were not participating very much. MLE type players are making $9-10 million a year now, and just like most MLE signings, I do not think they will be good value deals a year from now.

Re: No sense of urgency
I don't disagree that there has been no sense of urgency. Part of it due to all the cooks in the kitchen like Rebel pointed out. The other is that Denver won't just give away their players. If they're getting bad offers or the offers fall through there's nothing they can do.
While I'd like them to have overhauled already I can logically look at the situation and understand why it hasn't happen, doesn't mean I'm not frustrated by it. Can't just dump the assets for nothing. This situation will be cloudy for at least another year until we see who the Nuggets sign with all the cap space next year.....and be warned the free agent crop isn't as good as it was this year.

Re: No sense of urgency
the problem with the nuggets is timing. weather its hiring a coach, executing a trade, signing a player, releasing a player/players, nuggets always seem to like to try things after the biggest window of opportunity has passed. teams offered us 1st rd picks for lawson at the deadline but tc wanted 2 1st rds so it never culminated. theres many more examples of nuggets being slow on things which im sure yall are already aware of.
none of my post are complete without the daily reminder of the player which our gm TIM CONOLLY passed on. just imagine if we had him in the backcourt with ty lawson.

No sense of urgency
None of us know what deals the Nuggets had on the table....Only two people in the world would have taken SJ at 7. You....and SJ himself. You honestly think SJ will be able to get to the hoop that easy against real NBA players? He made one jumper in that entire video.

This SJ thing is becoming quite annoying.
He wasn't even the next two on our big board after Mudiay according to that draft video (WCS and Winslow were). Get over it.

Re: No sense of urgency
The problem is we don't know about things that have not happened. It seems like the FO hasn't been doing anything, but maybe them been super active and keep getting outbid or getting lowballed in trade offer.
