I'm confused: why exactly are people made about Doc's statements? What were they expecting him to say? I see lots of over-emotional hysterical reactions but nobody so far has explained what was the problem.

Were you actually expecting him to berate his own player in juvenile terms? He made a mild admonition, with that "he will be better".

Sometimes silence is the best way to go. Frankly, his over-emphasis on how "fantastic" the situation was for the Los Angeles Clippers is rather insulting given the circumstance.

What over-emphasis? I listened to him and didn't even notice any emphasis, let alone an over-emphasis. Of course it's great for them to have Jordan back and I think everyone understands the entire thing was great for teambuilding. He didn't go out of his way to stress that, it's just the way it is. How could silence even be an option? Now, if had come out with some sort of cryptic "no comments", that would be awkward. He's the GM/head-coach of the team, he has to talk about it.

Outside of outright apologizing to Dallas about signing a player that already made a verbal agreement just 5 days prior, I don't think he could've said anything that would make people feel less outrage. Even then, people would just call it insincere and trash him anyway. Anything that he says about this incident is lose/lose at this point. Like I said, he could answer a question about what he had for lunch and people would still be mad.

I don't think he needs to apologize for anything. Jordan does, but the Clippers did what any other team have done.

People are mad without any reason. Teams have reneged on their promises to free-agents and draftees and I don't remember any outrage whatsoever over those episodes.

Just to clarify, I read the entire thread. I understood many -most- of those who commented were angry and emotional. My question wasn't if people were mad, but why. Repeating assertions -e.g. "I'm angry, saying these things is terrible, what an awful thing to say, a person who says this ought to be hated, etc"- does not equate an argument. That's all.

I will say that it does take some talent to do what the Clippers have done. American sports is built on the concept of hating winners and loving losers. America loves it's underdogs. Hoosiers, Rudy, 2001 New England Patriots, Rocky Balboa, love them all, almost as much as we hate the overdogs, Mike Tyson, any Patriot team from the last decade, the Heatles. The Clippers should by all rights be the NBA's version of the Cubs. It takes hard work to earn the mantle of most hated and still be second-round fodder. Not an easy task.

Look I'm gonna be meta for a minute. I actually love all NBA teams and fans cause I've been a fan of the league for over 30 years. And I don't generally like trolling, but in some cases a little is necessary. And I'm not seeing enough of it on this board towards the Mavs. The reality is the world is kinda harsh. **** happens that completely sucks. But the Mavs team and fans will bounce back from this. I don't think being nice to them is gonna help them. If you're in a motorcycle accident and break your leg, do you want your brother to suddenly be nice to you and feel sorry for you? Hell no, you want them to bring it even harder. You want things to feel the same as they were. Nothing's changed Mavs fans. You guys will bounce back in no time cause you're dedicated fans and have a truly dedicated owner who will do anything to win.
