Somebody needed to do this to DJ at some point in his life.

Even Dragic on an interview yesterday was asked about this. He said DJ should have acted like a man and called Cuban.

There is way too big a deal being made of this. I understand why Dallas fans and players are upset, they didn't get their guy, but I dont know why anyone else cares. It's a tough decision to leave your home, a place you've been working and living in for years. Especially to go somewhere completely different. In the end he couldn't do it and did what he thought was best for him. Should he have handled it differently? Probably, but he made a last minute decision and went with it. Dallas may have ended up with a guy who wasn't truely happy to be there.

There's something called "the right thing to do" and you do it just because it is right even though you don't have to. I wonder how many defending this would leave a job with no notice or change their mind about accepting an offer without a call or notifying the employer. Your good name is very important so have the.common decency to at least call your.potential employer. Unfortunately Jordan s actions are a microcosm of the selfishness and entitlement displayed by some of the young people in our society, particularly our athletes who have been coddled since a young age.

How many times have players heard, "IT'S A BUSINESS" when they were just traded to some garbage team without their knowledge or after being low-balled in negotiation or after getting waived, etc.

95% of the time the entities treat all these things simply as a transaction. They don't consult with the player.

So now Jordan did the same thing.

Sorry, Stalker Cuban.... it's a business.

How many times have people said, it's not about the change of heart.
I doubt the Mavs would have been okay with a guy whose heart wasn't in Dallas playing as their defensive anchor anyway.

It's how DJ handled the situation is what people are mad at.
How he didn't even take calls and avoided the Mavs!

The lack of reading comprehension by many people on this board is astounding. Everyone just wants to lash out their grievances about the Clippers, about Dallas (Mavs haters) and about Parsons (Rockets fans). NEWSFLASH GUYS, it's very transparent - it doesn't take a genius to spot who the bitter people and haters are.

People are upset about it cause it f*cked up Dallas's future. Had it happened before everyone else was already signed, there would have been to problem, but no, DeAndre had to wait until it was too late for the Mavs to get any additional help.

So when a team trades a player (and moves his entire family, etc.) while not consulting the player, that's fine?

What a double standard.

Yes that's fine. If players want guaranteed contracts then it's perfectly fine for teams to move them if they need to. Absolutely 100%. If they want to get rid of guaranteed contracts in the next CBA then maybe you'll have a point. The player is making money regardless. If they get traded, shut up and say thank you.

Well if Jordan doesn't want to take Stalker Cuban's call, then that's fine also. If Jordan rescinds, then Stalker Cuban can shut up and say thank you.

I don't think anyone has said he's breaking any rules. This is really an ethical debate. In your world shaking hands and reaching an agreement doesn't mean anything. That's your right. Personally I wasn't raised that way. Good luck to you.

There is no ethical aspect. It's simply a transaction just like all the other deals made in the NBA.

Of course there is an ethical aspect. If someone makes a deal with you and shakes your hand on it, and then you start to make arrangements based on that handshake deal, then they back out of it before the paperwork is officially signed, it's just not good. I think everyone here wants people to trust them at their word and as a stand up guy, but those of you who are brushing it off as simply "business" are probably not the kind of people others should be trusting on your word.

DJ said he was going to sign with the Mavs. His word was broken. That's an ethical/trust issue, but not a contract issue in this case based on the signing moratorium.

No, because in that "handshake" is the understanding of the right to rescind. Stalker Cuban 100% knew of this possibility.

I'm not brushing off anything. I'm understanding the terms of the agreement which most of you aren't. I am not surprised by Jordan's decision since it was the right one and therefore I see no fault in it.

Again, the entity does business like this every day and nobody gets upset.

This is legal contracts, not ethics.

Sorry Cuban, it's just business.

I get that what DJ did was cowardly and crappy. What I dont get is why posters at realgm are personally offended by it, as if it has anything to do with their life or will have any real consequences on the actual people involved.

Its basketball. DJ is a coward but he didnt kidnap Cuban or Dirks daughter. They'll both be perfectly fine and probably over this within a week, so there's no cause for outrage on their behalf. And his actions have less than zero percent effect on your life.

Pretty sure nobody even thinks about this when you arent logged in to realgm and in front of a computer.

It was a dick move. Adjust your inconsequential personal estimation of DeAndre Jordan to "lower" and get on with your life.

You have it backwards. People are discussing the ethics of it, not the legal contracts aspect. It was a shady move. Especially since it was public too, causing more embarrassment.

There is a difference in telling the Mavs that he's thinking about their offer, and saying he is going to sign with them and then backing out. His word is tarnished.

Better stay with the devil you know than they devil you don't.

Cuban, Parsons and Fegan tried to play DJ with Bull...Dj liked it at first...but another Shaq? franchise center? The Mavs told some tall tales and DJ realized it. Dj realized mavs were trying to play him and not being real. How could he trust the Mavs?

PAsons and Cuban acting "hurt" shows that Cuban treats "business" like a one way street.

If Cuban was a pro, a real business man he would realize this happens in business and move on without shot taking.

DJ told Cuban Mon/Tues he was rethinking his commitment and that was that.

No, I have it straightforward.

Jordan made a verbal agreement with the Dallas Mavericks and within the terms of that verbal agreement is the right to rescind, which he exercised.

There is no ethical aspect to it. It was a business decision no different than any other contract decisions made by the entities. Again, is it a shady move for an organization to sign a player then trade him without his consideration?

If you have a problem with the way the parameters are structured, then that's your issue. Having issue with Jordan exercising his absolute right is absurd.

Any lawyers out there? As I read it, under the definition of promissory estoppel, Cuban could theoretically force DeAndre to honour his commitment. (Of course he would never do that; what a disaster that would be.) Please correct if I am wrong.
