What would've been

Post#1 » by KN5 » Fri Jul 10, 2015 4:13 pm

Hey, I'm not sure if this has been posted anywhere else but if it has feel free to lock this bad boy up. Anyway, i just wanted to get everyone's opinions on what we have compared to what we could've had.

What we have:
Kemba/Lin/Roberts
Batum/Lamb/Hairston/Daniels
MKG/Williams
Zeller/Kaminsky
Al/Hawes

What we could've had:
Kemba/Roberts
Winslow/Daniels/Hairston
MKG/Williams
Zeller/Vonleh
Al/Biyombo

So when I personally think about this it does all rely on how everyone pans out, however, wasn't that what we were supposed to do? Rebuild through the draft? Don't get me wrong I've come to terms with our current roster and think it could be really good, not great, but really good. Our potential roster had the chance of being great, yes they could've busted but they had the chance of reaching a higher ceiling compared to what we currently have if they developed like they were thought to have right?

Honestly I think it's a win win for Charlotte fans with the way the FO have handled things, we have a team playoff worthy in the east. We have win now players. If they didn't take this route, we'd have tonnes of potential. Just wanted to gt everyone's take on the rosters and see what conclusions we can come to, please keep the debate (if there is one) all clean, we're all rootin' for the same team anyway :).

Just to conclude yes, I like the team currently but I was more than open to see what we could've POTENTIALLY done.

2nd roster would require a lot of follow-up trades before it is competitive. I don't care what anyone says, MKG and Winslow would not be a highly functioning wing duo, especially paired next to Kemba, Zeller, Al. Biz and Vonleh. That team might be top 3 on defense but would still be bottom 3 on offense.

Kemba / Lin / Roberts
Winslow / Henderson
MKG / Marvin
Zeller / Vonleh
Bismack

plus anything we could get for Lance and Jefferson. That team's ceiling is several times higher than what we have currently. Not as good short-term, but so much better long term.

sorry, but that team as constructed has no future, not now, not in 2 years, not in 5 years. You cant start 5 guys who cant shoot 3s. That team would be worst offensive team in the league by a mile for as long as it was together.

It may have players with more upside, but you'd have to make trades to create an actual functioning team.

And Biz will never be a high quality starting center.

Is a "Winslow Watch" thread too much?

I was obviously a major Winslow booster, but I don't think he would've started over Henderson this year.

Well, yeah. Lance fetched us Hawes+Lamb, so that trade could go through as expected. I forgot to include PJ and Daniels, who we still have, and I think Jefferson+Henderson could get us Batum if we threw in a pick instead of Vonleh.

Kemba/Lin/B-Rob
Batum/Winslow/Daniels
MKG/Lamb/Marvin/PJ
Zeller/Vonleh
Biz/Hawes
plus the MLE

basically the only changes being made here are us selecting Winslow over Kaminsky, and instead of shipping out Vonleh, we give up Big Al and a 1st. We also retain Biz, which I think we all agree is a no-brainer, whether we think he's a starter or not. I think 100% of us would rather see him than Al here.

I'm usually in the what could have been mode, but f*** it. Coulda...woulda...shoulda... I mean why stop there? We could be rolling out Lillard-Klay-Kawhi-Draymond-Gobert and setting ourselves up as a potential dynasty.
