if we were to bring in chandler, i'd assume as a starter. does that mean you're thinking we should go into the season with pierce as the backup 3? or backup 4 with wes johnson at the backup 3?

Seraphin and Hill will get more than the minimum, but I'd still like McGee as a back up C. I'd be ok with Mbah A Moute to round up the roster, as would be if we were to bring Grover back.

I think we should now be open to trade a 2019-to-2022 1st round pick, as long as we make sure it never turns into a top 10 pick. Dangle it around with Crawford and the unguaranteed contracts and maybe we can get something of note like Chandler or Patterson.

Big Baby should be back, and I hope they at least think of giving him the $5M unguaranteed contract to use as a trade chip later.

I agree. Try to sign Nelson and convince him to take a paycut to chase a ring.

Also we must sign Baby for 2yrs/10mil with the 2nd year completely unguaranteed a la Haywood. Then we would have Lance and Baby's contracts that we could dump next offseason to teams looking to save $$.

Dealing with OKC

Post#523 » by Ranma » Thu Jul 9, 2015 7:41 pm

If my proposed Crawford-for-Gibson trade isn't available, I'd pursue a deal with the Thunder since they look to have a need to clear salary cap space in order to match an offer sheet for Kanter from Portland.

p.s. 4 years at $70 million with a player option for the 4th year for Kanter makes the recently signed DeAndre Jordan contract look like a bargain.

I'd start Pierce probably, and bring Wilson off the bench but playing heavy minutes, probably as many as Pierce or more. At least in the regular season. Both Pierce and Chandler can play minutes at the 4 in small units, that the bench could probably afford around DJ for a few minutes or whatever. And divide whatever's left of SF minutes with Johnson if he shows he's worth it. Play Lance exclusively as a SG, or the 2nd unit ball handler actually, and get a PG who can play off the ball like Nelson or Ridnour. I like Austin, but not for our team make up, he can't play alongside Lance, or with the starters.

Forgot about Gibson Ranma, good looking out. He's another dude I'd give a protected pick for.

He's not getting anything close to that anywhere else, if we give him that contract both years should be unguaranteed, at least partially.

hm.

if lance plays like indy lance and not crappy lance, why do you not think he pairs well with rivers?

what i see potentially is a ball dominant guard (lance) taking rivers's bad decisions/shaky handles away from him, and enabling him to focus on defense and shooting.

obviously we can't know until we see it and i completely understand your cynicism when it comes to stephenson, but i would like to think they can mesh together just well enough.

The 2-year with the 2nd year as a player option contract should be named the Doc Rivers deal.

I know Baby isn't getting more than the vet min anywhere else, but there's no point in giving him an unguaranteed contract for this year if the point is to be able to trade him next offseason in a Brendan Haywood situation.

I also would like to see us going after Luc Mbah a Moute as a backup to Blake.

Clips will be agreeing to a two year deal with Cole Aldrich

I like it. Its a different skill set than DJ off the bench.

do these signings mean we're not trading Jamal Crawford?

A. Riv
Mally Crawf
GOATenson
Smiff
Aldrich

I'll be honest….with Rivers and Aldrich signings in place….if we do bring in Smiff.
We should get back on the phone with Denver and try to rent Wilson

not sure how i feel about josh smith. my mind keeps wandering to "but he blocks shots and steals, so he's a good defender, right?"

but obviously we know that doesn't always track and i think he's not that lockdown guy we are looking for. can doc rein him in? maybe. but holy cow is he gonna have a job on his hands next year if smith signs. think about it:

1. fix lance and keep his head on straight
2. get dj more involved (how he's gonna do this is beyond me)
3. actually get josh smith to play to his potential and not do bad things
4. develop austin more
5. finally integrate wilcox
6. keep dj and cp3 cool with each other

granted paul pierce will help keep relations smooth but that is a lot of things to worry about.

so, with austin rivers back (unless he does a DJ) and cole aldrich in the mix, along with our other additions (pierce, lance, johnson), this offseason is looking pretty good.

it sounds like we are going to get glen davis back, which is great. i think we are maybe one sneaky move away from being spurs-level.

obviously i'd love to do something like a jamal crawford trade for chris andersen. some miami fans have posed adding shabazz napier to the mix (which would be amazing) but i don't see why they'd want crawford after signing green. still, if i were to have my way:

1. trade crawford for andersen or some other big that's out there that we'd love
2. sign darrell arthur for the minimum
3. go home happy with your offseason.

as much as we malign doc (and man would i have loved biyombo), he's done pretty alright for himself given his limited resources. pretty much everything's been a solid base hit or a home run. if he can finish the offseason getting rid of jamal and signing arthur, i'd say he's hit for the cycle.

I like Arthur, not sure what's his level lately since I have barely seen the Nuggets last year, but if our big men rotation could be something like DJ/Blake/Arthur/Andersen/Aldrich/Big Baby I'd be cool with it, even if we'd be a little thin on the wing again.

I think with the new signings that the jamal trade does not happen. you still need a big pf but at this point I think they keep baby. if they do get josh smith. they may need to sign dr. phil to a retainer as locker room chemistry protector!!!

I think McRoberts would be a good fit, but im not sure you want to tie yourself up for 2 more years.

If Doc cand land Arthur for the minimum thats perfect. They can then either keep Jamal or look to deal him for a SF/PF and we are set.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.
