Rio and Ennis to Houston for a 2016 2nd
Birdman to Denver for a 2056 2nd

Goran/Napier/Johnson
Wade/Green/Zoran/Richardson
Deng/Winslow
Bosh/McBob/Haslem
Hassan/Amare/Joshua Smith

Hear me out on smith. Yea he's a little out of shape but for a large man he has a nice touch around the basket. We have an extra spot for a big with Willie Reed signing in Brooklyn. At MOST smith will be asked to play 10-12 minutes once a week. If Amare were to get hurt or we needed another big we could easily release him and at that time try to find someone on the cheap. Also if at that time were very close to contending we could package Napier and a couple 2nds pick up a big that a team is looking to dump. It can't hurt to give Smith or Tuttle or a young big a chance.

Joshua Smith needs to spend some time in the D-League conditioning. I like his play too, but it's silly to debate putting him on our roster. Let's give him some guaranteed money (like we did with TJ) and send him to the D-League. Later on if he's interesting we call him back.

I got excited. I thought you meant a different Josh Smith (the knucklehead).

Also, sending Chris back to Denver??? You know his history? I don't think he wants to go back to Denver.

I'm pretty sure he might want to play in Europe again if we bought him out. Here he won't get much playing time. I'm having the same thoughts about Haslem, fwiw. I love the guy and he helped us at the end of last season when everyone else was down, but that was it.

He can't play the season.

In order to guarantee and send him to d league I believe we would have to use a roster spot on him, I believe.

We wouldn't guarantee him - just hand him $50K like we did with TJ. Another team could grab him but he could wait for us. Money buys some loyalty. Remember they can sign 14 day contracts too. It's one reason to keep a roster space open - in case we stumble onto a player we should grab.

I know everybody loves to hate on Rio but I think there's a near zero percent chance we go into the season with Napier and Johnson or Richardson as our only backup PGs, as I've seen suggested in multiple places. Napier was pretty underwhelming last year imo, Richardson has never played a single NBA game, and Johnson was learning point in summer league like last week. Let's be real here.

I could see Bird being traded during the offseason, but if Chalmers gets moved, it'll be in season, after someone else on the roster has shown enough to convince the front office that they're better than him. Right now, no way.

Well Goran, Dwayne and possibly Winslow can take over ball handling duties. I also don't think TJ initiating the offense is all that bad. Rio is just so sketchy when hes asked to do too much, which he may not have to moving forward. If Mickey is willing to pay up, I would be all for keeping him. I am with you on Napier, I want him to succeed but I just don't think he has the physical ability to warrant consistent minutes.

Totally agree. If we'd stuck with developing Pat Beverly we wouldn't have been plagued with Rio for so long. Shabazz has to put a lot of offseason work in to become an NBA player. I really hope Goran and Wade help him to develop some ability to finish at the pro level. He gets to learn from the best. And his shot was coming back right before he got with the hernia. It would be a mistake to cut ties with Napier so soon.

I can't get behind another year with Mario on this team. If Rio spent all his energy on D and focused on just camping in the corner on offense and becoming a deadshot spot up shooter, he would be an enormously valuable player. He doesn't though. It's everything else he attempts to do which makes him a negative.

Eh...even in what was certainly a down year for him, last season Chalmers was still simply a better player than Shabazz. And very few people are suggesting cutting Napier to sign a vet. Speaking for myself, at least, I want Napier's spot to go to Richardson and/or Johnson--also young guys to develop, but guys I think have more potential than he does. I don't think Shabazz will be better than Mario next season, and I don't think Shabazz will be better than Richardson/Johnson in 3 seasons, so I don't think he should get a spot over any of them.

Now, Shabazz has a guaranteed deal, whereas Johnson's is not guaranteed, Johnson has a broken jaw, Richardson doesn't even have a contract yet, and Mario carries a big luxury tax hit, and so for financial reasons Shabazz has a big leg up there. But for purely basketball reasons, I think we have better options for the present and the future.

Nepotism is a bad practice I do not approve.

zoran is not going anywhere...not this season at least.

Still Rio is better than a lot of people on that list. I'm convinced that people want change just for the hell of it. J.Rich, Napier, and TJ have not proven to be better than Rio yet.

Come playoff time I'd rather have Rio backing up Goran than Napier or TJ tbh.

Based solely on talent, I agree. However, I'm terrified that Rio is going to go rogue at some point and take the ball from Dragic's hands, like he did far too often last season. It could've been due to Dragic not knowing the offense well enough to run it, but I think it was more Chalmers trying to mark his territory, so to speak. We really can't afford that at this point and I'd rather we trade Mario than risk those tendencies rearing their ugly heads during the season. Perhaps the "solution" is to avoid playing Chalmers and Dragic together, but I don't think that's a very good one, if it is one at all.

Rio would be so much of a better player if he just knew how to stay in his lane.
