Grizzlies win Orlando Summer League

Post#1 » by Zordor » Sat Jul 11, 2015 1:02 pm

Incase you missed it this week:

Memphis went undefeated in Orlando Pro Summer League, including two wins in sudden death double overtime where russ smith went RUSSDICULOUS and dropped a hook shot w/ contact and a crazy floater. So look for Russ Smith to be the backup point guard this year, especially if Udrih is slow coming off his injury, he showed great playmaking skills and BBIQ and after seeing limited minutes his first year he took to heart everything the coaches had to say.

Untold Stories of Summer League:
1. Andrew Harrison rebounds well and showed flashes of good play, but was also utilized less throughout the week
2. Adams stepped up his defensive ability A L O T from last year and even though he was hidden behind the spectacular finishes of Russ Smith, Adams stat line speaks for itself as he was the 3rd best player overall in the Summer league based on stats
3. Stokes adds a semi reliable shot from midrange, Stokes has really worked on his offensive game, but he also is learning how to bang down low for Offensive Rebounds including the key rebound and kick out back to Russ smith for the floater to win in double overtime.
4. Jamychal Green was sent home halfway through the week, he is also not a guaranteed contract, if this is any indication, he will not be back next year.
5. Alex Kirk was a HUGE bust in summer league.
6. Jason March said "Our four guys did well this week especially, (Stokes, Adams, Smith, Harrison)" Intentionally leaving Green out

Side notes during week:
1. Calathes airs that he wants to go to Greece
2. Andrew Harrison has not been tendered a contract yet, but Grizzlies have already signed Martin and Wright.
3. Grizzlies supposedly still hot on trade talks but Joe Johnson and supposedly also Gallo are off the market for time being.

I remember Hasseltine mentioned last week that Smith, Adams, and Stokes for sure have likely punched their tickets to se some time later when the season begins in October. I didn't hear much about Harrison and didn't realized that Green was sent home. What happened on that end?

Also the Grizz need to get off the Joe Johnson train. The guy can contribute somewhat, but his best days are behind him. Stop getting after these guys who are pass their prime. Also glad that Gallo is off the market. No time for injured prone players regardless if they are sitting on an expiring contract.
