Re: Trade Idea Thread II
Yeah, can't they bring themselves to put some thought into things and be just a little bit creative? Is signing washed up veterans who were good in 2009 the only motherf*ng mode they know? It stopped being funny two seasons ago.
We need a 3rd big who is in his prime and can play at a high level for 20+ minutes a night, and we have Crawford's contract, Wilcox and two $1M unguaranteed contracts that we'd need to trade before next Wednesday (when Hudson becomes guaranteed). If we don't do anything with those assets and we start the season with Boozer and Big Baby as our bench bigs, and Crawford on the roster, I just don't know how can I keep believing in this team. For all the talk about how Blake was gassed up last playoffs, how Paul always gets injured in the post season, how we melted down against Houston, all of that traces back to summer moves like these. If we go for the third season with no depth at all, I just cannot believe in this team to ever compete for a championship.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
lol yeah.
watch the team sign boozer, doc watch him for the first time on the court with incredulity when he can't defend (doc: he's got muscles like lebron so he should move like lebron, right?!), then bury him on the bench for the rest of the year.
come june, blake will be playing 45mpg again and will again be a very slow moving piece of furniture while josh smith rains 3's upon our heads.
man, i just can't wait, doc. go get boozer right now!

Still any takers left for Jamal? Salary dump may be the only way to get him off the roster.

That isnt happening. There are takers, Doc just has to decide who he wants.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
So, a trade scenario that I came across by messing with the trade machine:
LAC send: Crawford, Wilcox, Hamilton, Hudson
LAC get: Perry Jones, DJ Augustin, Kaman
OKC send: Perry Jones, DJ Augustine
OKC get: Hamilton, Hudson
POR send: Kaman
POR get: Crawford, Wilcox
We get the depth we need.
OKC gets the cap relief they're looking for to match Kanter's sheet.
Portland swaps a useless veteran on an expiring for another, in exchange for the right to take a flyer on Wilcox.
Who says no?

I know we can do much better than Boozer by trading Jamal, but for a guy making the vet min I think y'all are overreacting a bit.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
It's not that he'd be overpaid, it's that he can't be our 3rd big, ever. If he takes that roster spot he most likely will be, and we will be back to the Jamison/Mullens days.

Yeh, Doc wants a contributor in return. As the free agent market dries up, Jamal's value should creep back up.
I really really want us to trade Jamal for Wilson Chandler. And I just found out that Toronto now owns our 1st round pick, which is very very interesting. This is bad of me to get my hopes up, but I think its possible. Toronto didn't re-sign Jamal's younger self in Lou Williams, so the fit makes perfect sense on the court with them lacking a 6th man. Fits contractually as well with it being an expiring contract. But most importantly, the 1st we traded to the Bucks now belongs to Toronto. We can remove the protections on that pick and in return have them send Terrance Ross plus filler to Denver.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
I'm with you Lin.
I'd pull out every stop short of giving up another asset to flip Jamal for Wilson.
3rd team, 4th team….whatever.
to me, that would make this an awesome offseason and I'd go into this season pretty confident about this group.
Dunno why Denver is holding onto him with an unreasonable asking price.
it's not like he has 2 years left on his deal. He's expiring.

Haven't posted a trade thread in a long time so I'm feeling generous. Two 1st round picks!

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
the problem with boozer isn't in his monetary cost, or what he does to our cap room.
it's the opportunity cost. by adding boozer it means you're not adding a reliable big who can defend, rebound, and take care of the actual important needs of the team as opposed to the very very unnecessary addition of more offense. we were 1st in offense for two years, but average in defense. and i think it should be clear by now that adding more offense onto what we had with mullens, hawes, farmar, holding onto crawford, to name a few, is what got us bounced in the second round for two years straight. virtually every defensive name floating around out there for the past 2 years that doc declined to chase in lieu of these clowns were major impact pieces on defense and are either now sporting brand new jewelry (livingston) or giant contracts (carroll, aminu, middleton). and those are just what i can name off the top of my head.
and again, it's about opportunity cost. adding boozer means that cole aldrich doesn't come in the rebound or block shots. it means we don't even bother developing branden dawson who might end up being the team's best defender. it means we don't sign darrell arthur who has the defensive versatility that greases doc's strong side defense. adding boozer means none of those things come into play. you really want that for someone who was so badly maligned in chicago that they were talking about amnesty virtually from the day he stepped foot onto their court? and that was years ago. he's even worse now.
adding boozer is just adding another guy who sets the team back, even if it's for the minimum.
also, i like wilson chandler and i'm not looking for wes johnson to save us, but we are ok on wings. not great, but ok.
we are not ok on bigs. we need to prioritize a big man trade before we can go for a chandler one.

Chandler is still better than any PF that's realistically available.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
I'm sure I am in the minority here but I personally think with Cole Aldrich signing, all we really need is just bringing back Baby and maybe Perkins, but make sure Dawson is in our rotation. he maybe undersized as a PF and people are pegging him as a defensive SF without the 3, but to me, this kid can be our Shawn Marion. he may measure to be at a SF height, but he has the wingspan and the springs to be the round mound of rebound "lite" in terms of rebounding and defense.
ehhhhh f it.

I agree.
In my dream scenario, I would keep Wilcox to keep some depth in our back court and trade jamal for anything just because I want him gone. I really like our team and also want Doc to blood Dawson early on to give him experience. I think both Dawson and Wilcox could be valuable assets in a couple of years with the right experience.
This will be unpopular but I really want Big Baby back. He always puts in the effort and has a nice layup while also can knock down mid range jumpers in the pick n pop.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
Im not sold that Dawson can play more than 5-7 minutes a game right now. We would need a lot of floor spacing with him out there, so I think we see him as a situational sub if he plays at all.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

What do you guys think of this 2-part deal:
Trade 1:
Crawford/Hudson/Hamilton to Cavs
Haywood/future second from 3rd team to Clippers
Wilcox to 3rd team
Trade 2:
Haywood/Napier/Future 2nd to Nuggets
Future 2nd/TPE to Heat
Chandler/Andersen to Clippers
