George Karl halftime interview

Karl interview

End to the first half with WCS (come from behind block to end the half by WCS)? - Thought WCS had some good moments. Can really play defense and has great athleticism for a guy 7feet tall. We like him a lot. His offense is gonna be a little better. Just think he needs to learn the pro game, grow up a little bit, mature a little bit and keep playing hard. I think he is gonna be fine.

With all the moving and shaking with the roster happening, how much are you looking to see these guys play how you want to do next season? - This is the beginning of next year. So much of our draft pick and maybe one or two guys on this roster that can help us in camp, maybe make the team. But right now the maneuvering for us is Vlade making my roster better. We're a better basketball team come Sept. Better creativity, more versatility, better defense. We just have to get together and get ready to go.

How much of your success depends on your relationship with DMC? - It's summertime. The magnification of some of the stuff that is going...I think Vlade and myself are content that Cuz and I can work these things out.

What are the issues? - I think frustration. I think Cuz wants to win . I like that. I like that his personality is he is tired of losing. Last year I was only here 30 games and i could feel the frustration. Right now its summertime I think he has to let that all go and come together and unify yourself. We got 2 months 3 months before it counts. Training camp opens end of Sept. I think we'll be fine.

Where are you now? - I think we're going okay. Just something we need to continue to work on and communicate and I think we'll be fine.

Thanks for transcribing this. I still want Karl gone if he crossed any lines with Cousins in the past or there is any nonsense between them now. We didn't give him a job for that. But for now it looks like Vlade will try to repair a relationship that had no business being out of whack - Cousins with current head coach

For now it's a hard thing to have to dislike the coach for me personally, and wonder if he will do any harm towards us retaining Cuz in the future

They both need to grow up and get to work.

If it really is hard for you to dislike the coach and you're not just saying that to mask or soften your true feelings in the view of others then...don't dislike him. We never have had any concrete info about any major offense from Karl toward DMC. All we have are blind media sources and agent tampering(Fagen has since been put on blast in other situations). The interview people want to hang Karl with wasn't untrue or inflammatory but was painted as blasphemy in the press and by some fans. It was, at most, out of line with his position as the coach and not the gm. But he was simply telling an NBA truth to a question he was ASKED. Vlade has since sent the message of who is in charge and where the buck stops.

They haven't even gotten together yet this off-season to talk about it. This is definitely a time for DMC to grow and mature even more and learn to work with people that at first you're uneasy with. It's part of life. Think of the positives that can come from a super talented and passionate player and a intellectual and experienced coach known for drawing the most out of that passion in players. think of if they're both working to make us the best team we can be. Think about their clear motivations. Cousins wants to win so bad that it hurts to watch sometimes and Karl wants rings more then anything. If they both are on the same page and working at the same goals with no egos in the way this team can definitely make a lot of haters eat crow.

My new Motto for the Season that I think fits: Part of the Problem or the Solution!
