Austin Rivers, Clippers Agree Upon Two-Year, $6.4M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jul 12, 2015 5:50 pm

Austin Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed upon a two-year, $6.4 million deal.

Rivers was acquired by the Clippers in February from the Boston Celtics.

Rivers was a lottery pick in 2012, but the New Orleans Pelicans didn't pick up their option on his deal making him a free agent this offseason.

So in real life, Austin would have gone overseas to work on his craft. This move hurts both Austin's growth as a pro baller and Doc's track record as GM (and Doc's coaching record). Clippers hope to contend but they need better depth than this. At least Austin gets a nice pay day, and Mommy Rivers is happy.

He is a good backup point guard. Remember he still hasn't reached his full potential and had some really good games. Also keep in mind they just gave DJ a Max contract so they don't have too much to spend and 2 years 6.7 mil ain't bad for a good young guard.

wait so did you think they were gonna give him more if they had more to spend? hahahahaha. And no, he's more of a 3rd string point guard.

Jeremy Lin and others are better players and on lower salary. I guess Clippers (I mean Doc Rivers, really) purposefully waited for free agents to sign to allow Austin Rivers' perceived value go up

I guess Austin's salary can be considered Doc's bonus.

this is bargain... the guy had some epic performances in this years playoffs...always liked his game and never understood why people ridiculed him...
Fact is that momentum in games is a real thing, while not tangible itself, you can tangibly see the effect it has when teams are on runs and how it can dramatically effect the outcome of games when you can generate any momentum.

Bargain? Never understood why people ridiculed him? Maybe because he struggles to shoot 40%? He had ONE "epic" perfomance in the playoffs, not some. "Epic" for him, maybe, but that is the reason that his contract is NOT a bargain.
