I'm also on antiKanter bandwagon.
Takes away more then he gives.
Are there any news about this situation?
Is the deadline today or tOmorrow?

I've been kicking this thought around a bit since the news broke of the terms of this offer sheet, did Kanter and his agent sort of screw the Thunder here? Its never up to the player to take less money but it does seem like they could have at least gone to the team one last time so a S&T could be worked out or maybe give Kanter same/similar money on slightly different terms.

I wonder if this all goes back to Kanter's nut job agent? Kanter's his only client and it appears to show in the way he conducts business.

Soonerule wrote:Assessing a player's offensive and defensive stats is not unlike a man that cannot swim trying to cross a deep river in a leaky rowboat. Can he paddle fast enough to cross the river before the boat sinks? Kanter's offense this season at OKC was like the man's paddle and ability to row, and he is one of the best at it. In an ideal situation he can paddle across that river in 30 minutes while the same journey would take a normal man 35. Unfortunately, this is not an ideal situation and Kanter's defense is like the very neglected row boat that fills up with water and sinks in 28 minutes. Bravenewworld only sees the man and his paddle and is betting he will cross the river with no problems, I see both the man and the boat and say he will drown like a rat.

Further:

Next season, KD and Serge will return to the lineup and Kanter's scoring opportunities will decrease as a result. As the #3 or #4 scoring option vs being the #2 option he will be attempting that treacherous river crossing with a smaller paddle in the same leaky rowboat. There is only one solution to the river dilemma and Kanter successfully crossing it, patch the boat and reduce the leaking.

The question is whether Kanter is willing to do it. There is absolutely nothing in his history that indicates he will and compelling evidence that says that he has no intention of trying and this max contract is his reward. Why should he improve now?

This is an excellent analogy and a great point. A player that's all offense and no defense needs the ball and shots to help you at all. If he doesn't have get them then he's only hurting you because the other team will still force him to play defense and exploit him at the other end. It seems like the only way it can work is if Kanter plays a lot of minutes with reserve units where he could be the focal point of the offense.

So based on the period of 72 hours and using the time Woj sent out his tweet as a starting point, we should be hearing something about Kanter around 3 o'clock (CT) today, right?

According to Jon Hamm, Thunder have all day today, to match .... there's not a 72 hour deadline

Kanter is trending upwards ,all this slamming on him when clearly he's going to score big and rebound big on any team he plays for. But Kevin Durant can easily see that Cleveland is going all out to surround Lebron with big time producers (Love,Irving,Thompson ,Mozgov) Thompson has a $8O million offer from Cleveland ,great rebounder but can't match the offensive skillz of Kanter .

Let Kanter walk and OKC could be just setting the table for Durant to be open for offers from the Clippers who covet Durant next year in UFA. Why play for a team that hopes their Center (Adams) 7pts/7rbs can get better hands and footwork. And that a hustle PF( McGary ) can match up to other big time scoring PF's.Only to see Kanter go put up 20pts/11rebs a game with another team.

Western teams keep reloading ,OKC fans will start watching games in dread if Adams can't get more productive and McGary can't compete with the other high powered PF's in the west. And fall out of HC advantage behind Spurs,Golden State,Clippers,Memphis ,Rockets ........Durant can walk away saying he gave it his best but OKC was relying on guys who haven't produced yet and relying on Durant to carry them

The Portland gig is ideal for him, he can be number two, get all the points and boards and they aren't expected to win. Perfect.

Exactly, stats aside, Kanter doesn't fit Presti's profile, I don't get it.... I just don't get it

Buckets, boards and getting paid -

Kanter just turned 23 in May ,WTH are 22 yr old guys suppose to do ,Every 22 yr old in the NBA hopes to score buckets and get boards....they do that and some filthy rich white guy pays them big bucks...dumb statement

he doesn't appear to make winning his number one priority

putting up points and getting 10 rebounds plus in a highly competitive/high scoring Western Conference isn't helping your team win

I cannot see him being happy on a team where he must know that he will be sharing time with Adams

Adams is a 7pts/7 rebs per game roleplayer,I think OKC would be happy if Adams can match that production this year with the 2nd unit

Not so breaking news:

There just doesn't seem to be any noise out of OKC, which makes me wonder if Presti is planning on letting him go.

SOP, if another team extends an offer sheet to OKC RFAs', they are gonna be tied up for the max amount of time. Really, no need in doing this any other way.

So Durant is going to be more inclined to play for a team with a center they hope improves from having the worst defensive metrics of any center in the league. It will be interesting to see what the team dynamic is looking like when the big 3 get **** off with the temperamental kanter's lack of effort on defense

So,that is it. They will match it.
Now we need to look positive on whole situation. I hope Russ,Roberson,KD and Ibaka will be on their elite defensive level so Kanter's life can be easier.
But on the other side of floor things can be devastating for our opponents. Donovan probably will bring more dynamics into offense, more fluidity.

Kanter will be useful weapon during regular season, and even if in the playoffs teams start to target him....Adams can drop in starting unit and Kanter could lead the bench unit.
I hope he will not try to be drama queen if Donovan decide to use him from the bench. Man, 17 million dolars! Shut up and do your job.

Thunder fans, I come in peace. Curious about a few things.

Anybody recall exactly how the Harden debacle went down? I don't remember how much the front office offered him or what their payroll would look like or if the negotiations were before or after the Finals they lost to the Heat.

I'm asking to get perspective on the whole Kanter situation. Who knows? Maybe Kanter is a better fit than Harden since Westbrook and Harden are both ball dominant guards.

My personal thoughts (though not sure everyone agrees):

They offered Harden a little under what he took (I think 4/54 instead of 4/60 or something). They would still have had Perk as the starting C, and wouldn't have had Adams to replace him the last 2 years, meaning that ultimately they'd still be looking for any capable starting big this summer with nothing more than the likely taxpayer MLE to get said player. They also wouldn't have McGary to eventually replace Collison.

That said, they'd be better off at the SG obviously, but its essentially to me a one or the other situation. Would you rather be set at the wing and have a glaring hole in the middle, or be set in the frontcourt entirely or have a weakness at the 2? It wasn't an ideal situation, but to me it was alright.

even if in the playoffs teams start to target him

that's the whole idea Presti wants him in the lineup, isn't it ....take some pressure off of Westbrook and Durant and Ibaka

It's been pointed out at least a 100 times ,OKC has never had an inside scoring presence,if as usual NBA teams try doubling up on Durant and Westbrook the interior will be open for Kanter ,double up on him ,life is easier on Durant and Westbrook

teams double up on the big two when non scorer Adams is in ,Adams 7pts and 7 rebs arent much to game plan for compared to what Kanter can do and the game plan teams have to do for his production

Return to Oklahoma City Thunder
