One Year Kentucky Guards on the Suns

Post#1 » by dorkestra » Sun Jul 12, 2015 1:58 pm

I'm sure you guys have noticed before, but it just occurred to me that what would seem to be the primary backcourt rotation of Bledsoe/Knight/Booker/Goodwin all played exactly one year at Kentucky before going pro. And none of them ever played on the same team.

Bledsoe 2009/2010
Knight 2010/2011
Goodwin 2012/2013
Booker 2014/2015

Welp I guess that's it. Just thought it was weird.

On the other hand, Kentucky probably has more pros than any other college team, and they are particularly known for having "one and done" players. So maybe it's not that weird.

I think we are all aware of this as we are constantly reminded. I personally wasn't aware that Knight and Bledsoe only played one year in college though. I think what McD is trying to do is lure the bigs from Kentucky that had played with these guys or use it in free agency as some kind of connection.

It is strange. And now we have Harrellson on our summer league squad. He played with Bledsoe and Knight.

Also it rings true as to about how good those guys appear to be. All of them were on great Kentucky tourney teams except Goodwin, who was the leader of a team who missed the tourney, and as a one seed in the NIT got upset by Robert Morris.

Didn't I see on draft night that Kentucky has had 26 players drafted in the lotto? I think the next highest was 19, but forgot who that was.

Moreover, Calipari has been the coach of 19 of those lotto drafted, but I don't know how many were one and done players.

This explains why we surprisingly traded away Andrew Harrison on draft night. He wasan't a one and doner
