If we think we're a playoff team this year, it will prove our young core is legit and Stan Van can build a team as well as being a top coach then I think we'd be a more legit consideration for free agents. Salary dump trades will not be there for the next few years either because all teams will be under the cap by huge margins and thus no need to trade away good players for salary space.
I think you're looking at it in a vacuum, Kilo.
Even if Detroit is a playoff team next season, there will still be 15 other playoff teams that will be gaining $20 million in cap space, barring they aren't already well over the cap. Sure, Milwaukee signed Monroe with their cap space, but the rest of the main pieces were drafted or acquired via trade (unless you count OJ Mayo a major part of that team?).
Even then, Monroe is probably going to hurt just as much as he helped. The Bucks rim protection just went from okay to non-existent. Monroe isn't a spring chicken coming off pick and rolls, where he and MCW both need to be at the rim to scare the defense.
Milwaukee pulled a Dumars, and signed the biggest name they could. Monroe doesn't jive with what Milwaukee is trying to put together, which is a team where all five players can guard multiple positions at a high level.
Wait, Pachullia was a rim protector that can guard all 5 positions?
