If I'm OKC, and I really feel PJ3 has some real talent....sorry to say but I make sure he doesn't end up on a team we'd battle for a title

They never gave him a chance to really play though. He was great to start the year last year averaging over 20 points a game through the first few games then he got injured and never made it back into the rotation.

Perry Jones is solid...just a victim of Scott Brooks playing favorites. Remember how much playing time Derek Fisher got?
I'd definitely take him if I could. He just needs some playing time.

Notes: Rookie Rudy Gay twisted his left ankle trying to guard McGrady late in the third quarter and limped to the bench. He returned with 5:51 left, then returned to the bench about a minute later - http://www.nba.com/games/20061231/MEMHOU/recap.html

We might be using the word "great" loosely there. Also he had a lot of chances this last season. Lance Thomas was taking minutes from him, but then Lance Thomas got traded. Jones just couldn't beat out other guys to get consistent minutes. He's just not very good.
Problem is that a 4 game sample size of 17.8 ppg is not very useful. From December 18th to January 7th he played 21.8 mpg:
5.8 ppg / 2.5 rpg / 44.3% FG / 25% 3PT / .489 TS% / 99 Ortg
The last two seasons he's played 105 games / 13.3 mpg, that's not that bad. His per 36 minute numbers, 10.3 ppg / 4.9 rpg / 1.1 apg / 0.8 spg / 0.7 bpg / 42.7% FG / 29.8% 3PT
I'd take him because he's a young lengthy guy who did show some shooting touch in 13-14, and is cheap, but for his size, length and athletic ability, his rebounding sucks, he hasn't shown to be a consistent shooter. He's bad at PF, both for defense and rebounding. He just doesn't have an NBA skill that he can consistently bring to each night.
I'd be more excited about him if there were examples of instances where he got minutes and produced, but we had 11 games, 21.8 mpg, 6 starts in which he was still the same guy and didn't impress.

Re: Clipper 2015 Offseason
What do you guys think of going after Jason Terry? His shooting and veteran leadership would be awesome off the bench with Austin and Lance (I'm assuming Crawford gets traded).
Terry seems like he's been overlooked so far in free agency.

one of the worst defenders in the league at this point. i think we all saw how badly we abused him in the playoffs. i'd say no thanks and move on as fast as possible.

Re: Clipper 2015 Offseason
To be fair OG, it's hard to get looks in his 20 or so minutes he played during that stretch when he was coming off an injury(that's normally how some guys fall out of the rotation) and when you have an iso friendly coach in Scott Brooks who has KD and Russ iso almost every play.

Re: Clipper 2015 Offseason
i dunno. all these years and not one coach has figured out how to maximize his talents. he did have one year where he played really efficiently but that's the lone one i can think of.
if doc let jamal crawford take all those shots, he's gonna let josh smith hijack the offense, too. i wouldn't be looking forward to that.
i will say, though, that his passing ability off the bench could help this team do some big damage. and i'd be intrigued by his fit in doc's defensive system, but otherwise, meh.
i'd rather go get darrell arthur and be done with it.

Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Copeland is a good hedge/back up plan for Arthur. Worst case scenario you have a offense/defense platoon with Copeland and Dawson. I dont think Dawson sees more than institutional minutes as a hybrid forward. We need more shooting off the bench and Copeland can do that at SF/PF. I like it.

Bump on Hudson's Situation
mkwest wrote:Lester Hudson is finally eligible to be traded as of 7/11/15. His salary is non-guaranteed if waived before 7/15/15.
Jordan Hamilton is non-gauaranteed for the season.
Combined with Crawford's contract, the Clips can take back up to $9.7M in trade.
That number can be bumped up to $11.18M if Wilcox is included.

If the Brendan-Haywood-for-Jamal-Crawford trade is going to happen, I would think it will happen in the next couple of days since I doubt the Cavs would want Hudson's salary on the books for 2015-16. Then again, Cleveland could be leveraging to move past the July 15th cut-off date in order to force the discussion to involve the inclusion of Wilcox in place of Hudson.
Also, I'm sure the team that acquires Haywood would like a good amount of time to engage in trade talks in earnest with a third party before the end of July since he'll have to be waived before then in order to dissolve the obligation for his $10.5 million salary. I'm sure groundwork is being laid with other teams in passing Haywood's contract along, but for the Clippers, the sooner the projected trade happens, the better.
Should the deal not go down before July 16th, I'd opt out of Hudson's contract to bring him back as a camp invite.

Josh Smith vs. Darrell Arthur
Tom West, Clipperholics.com (7/13/15)
Who Should the Clippers sign? Josh Smith vs. Darrell Arthur
The best part of Arthur’s offensive game is his mid range shooting. This year, he made 43.4 percent of his shots from 10-16 feet out and 43.1 percent from 16 feet to the three point line. To put that into context, the prolific scoring power forward that is LaMarcus Aldridge shot worse than Arthur from both those distances this season.
...
His defensive impact is his main weakness, as he lacks the size to excel as a post-defender, although he makes up for that somewhat with his speed to guard smaller players near the perimeter. When he plays with tenacity, though, he can make a real difference at both ends of the floor and provide energy in transition. Far more so than Big Baby can, at least.
It’s the reason why the offensive rating of Nuggets’ opponents dropped by 9.6 points when Arthur was on the floor. Yet, whilst that may be impressive, he’ll need to play at power forward and be partnered with either Jordan or Aldrich at center for the Clippers to have enough interior presence against opposing bigs.
...
On the defensive end, Smith can be just as ferocious. He held opponents to just 46.2 percent finishing at the rim while in Houston, and even put on a stellar performance from further out. When defending players from within six feet, Smith limited them to a field goal percentage of -9.4 less than their season average. And when edging out to within 10 feet, Smith forced opponents to shoot -8.6 percent worse than their season average.
Add on his 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals per 36 minutes, and it’s clear Smith can be a defensive factor all over the floor.
With the Rockets, Smith raised their offensive rating by 3.3 when he was in the game, whilst also lowering the offensive rating of their opponents by an average of 3.3. As a result, the Rockets’ net rating without Smith (+1.2) increased to +7.8 with him on the floor.
