That's just a silly argument IMO. Let's assume we have a top 5 defense (which we did in 2013014) and we have Al giving close to the same production. You don't think improving the team around him will effect our win total at all? Really?

Alfense doesn't create a good offense. His numbers are almost inconsequential. It slows the game down and he eats so much shot clock and possession time that there aren't many opportunities for other people to score and he is one of the least effective and most unwilling passers in the NBA. Hes played on teams with more offensive talent than we have currently and hes never averaged more than barely over 2 assists a game. Our offense was bad in 2013-2014 with him putting up his best numbers ever. We were only a couple points per 100 possession better on offense with him on the court. We were worse on offense with him on the court last year even though he still actually put up decent numbers. There is a reason every team he has been a centerpiece of was bad. There is a decade of evidence.

Do you really think that our defense is going to improve from the last two years with the roster we have this year?

You are making assumptions about our offense that I don't share. It's been talked down enough that I'll stop after this post, but saying "It doesn't matter what we do, AL CAN NEVER PLAY ON A GOOD TEAM" is a poor take IMO.

Sorry to keep repeating myself with this take, but I think we were a top 5 defense in 2013-14 when Biz received very little minutes and MKG only averaged 24 MPG. I think we would have been a top 5 defense last year if we had stayed healthy, and I expect to have another top 5 defense this year.

- CHI (Rose, Noah, Mirotic, Gasol, Gibson)

TOR, BOS, NYN, MIL, IND, and CHA would compete for the last 4 spots.

The Nets lost Deron Williams
Indiana is getting Paul George back but lost Hibbert.
Boston has a crappy team and didn't add anyone of value but somehow Stevens coached them into the playoffs last year.
TOR lost Lou Williams.

yea I agree with this actually. totally forgot about MIA. it would be tough - CHA would have to beat all the scrub teams lol

MKG is easily the most important player of this team, zach lowe wrote a very good piece about MKG's value

In today's NBA, Big Al is the worst kind of post player you can have. Plays no defense, not a rim protector, but takes tons of shots and offensive clock. Much better to have someone who has no post game but is solid on defense.

How hard is it to defend a team whose offense revolves around an entry pass into the post to a player who will hold the ball 10 seconds waiting for the defense to react, and if he isn't doubled will throw up a shot? Theres also a pretty good chance hes throwing up a shot even if he is doubled. Talk about the antithesis of modern offensive NBA basketball. As long as we insist on starting practically every offensive possession in this manner we will struggle.

@hornets
I actually had a Charlotte Hornets trashcan, I swear. And it was glow in the dark! I loved when Baron Davis played. @JLin7

Looking forward to the inevitable Lin vs. Cho ping pong match.

Answer not posted above from the Q&A is the first one here. Floater, floater, floater...shoot more than Deandre shoots FTs a day. Ticket out of no man's land.

I read some comments from an article at atthehive and it seems like a lot of people are optimistic about hornets going further than 8th seed - of course going further than 8th will be nice, but i feel like right now aiming for 8th is a good start lol what do others think

i am very optimistic on this team
first of all, the defense of this team has been solid (top 5? and No. 9) in the last couple years, that's a big foundation... as long as the guys gel well, play for each other, they could surprise a lot of people, Lin, Batum, Hawes are all cerebral players and versatile, Lamb and Frank-the-Tank are good shooters, they give coach clifford a lot more options to open up the offense... there is no superstar in this team, but a lot of good versatile players, it reminds me the last season's Hawks... if everything clicks, they definitely can move up the ranking..
second, the east is pretty weak in general, Hornets was predicated to be the No. 6 or No. 7 seed already before last season, unfortunately Lance did not work out and the injuries ....

Just saw Jeremy's press conference. He was being very honest about his experience. I had said he is a more complete player today than during his Knicks days and he confirmed it himself. I think he will do great here. Coach Clifford seems like a good coach who understands the game and I believe Jeremy will get the opportunity he did not have in Houston and in LA. Hopefully, Jeremy will get some good teammates and he will lead those young guys to new heights. I think some of the bigs will love playing with him and he will make them look really good this season.

Oh yeah, you definitely want Kemba and Jeremy close out the game. 4th quarter is usually Lin's best quarter and he loves to take those pressure shots. Kemba was like that at UCONN and he will get MUCH MUCH better shots with Jeremy playing alongside him.
