Re: Official BKN-DAL-MIN pick watch Thread 2015-16 season
Maybe someone can help me out but how the hell does anyone expect the Nets to be competitive?...That roster is god awful. Brook Lopez is the Derrick Rose of centers. Thad Young....is well Thad Young. Joe Johnson avged 15 points last season. They're gonna be starting Shane Larkin and Rondae Hollis Jefferson. They literally have one shooter in Joe Jonhson. Larkin shot 30% from three last season. The Kings and the Nuggets had better rosters in 2014-2015 and finished 6th and 7th.
Orlando will be better than them and so will the Knicks. People forget that Deron Williams played relatively okay towards the end of last season. This pick is gold and will be between 3-7.

Re: Official BKN-DAL-MIN pick watch Thread 2015-16 season
The other argument that Nets will do anything to be competitive to not help out a rival would be some of the dumbest front office work. They seriously need to gather assets any way possible. If they can get anyone to give up a late first of a few second rounders for Joe Johnson you do it. You just play your young players and start over. Instead of trying to make playoffs for the next 3 years with a miserable roster, you start developing young guys and in 3 years time you might potentially have some promising pieces.
If they hope to strike big in Free Agency they really are a hopeless franchise. The Lakers are in a better spot and got scraps in Free Agency. The Celtics are set for the next 3 years with essentially 3 guaranteed lottery picks.

Yikes. Feel bad for TRob but really this is how the Nets fall apart. They've got guys on guaranteed deals and are so close to the tax it is hard to bring in replacements. If they get hit hard by injuries it will be a steady diet of 10 days and paying second rounders to move rostered non-contributors.

Rooting for Lakers, Nuggets, Kings, Wolves, Magic to be competitive. I want that top 3 lottery pick.

I agree. We could see them down in the Philly range soon if a big injury occurs (Lopez) . I don't like their chances.

I'm calling it right now. BK pick with be #5, Mavs pick #14, Minny pick stays with Minny as they will fall in the lottery again this year. So depending on how good the Celtics will be our draft positioning will look something like this in the 1st round
#5, #14, #19.....
#5, #14, #19.....

Due to the loss of Williams and other teams possibly getting healthier, not many people are penciling in the Nets for the playoffs like they made this past season. But as it stands right now, I certainly would project them for around 32-34 wins instead of 22-24. I wonder what Vegas is projecting them for right now in terms of wins and losses. I would suspect it would be 30+ wins but I could be wrong.
Anyways, I do expect the Nets to miss the playoffs but right now my best educated guess is next years Nets pick turns into the 8-10th pick in the 2016 draft and not much better or worse than that. 8-10th pick in a good draft is certainly nice but if the draft lives up to pundits expectations of being weak, it might end up a disappointment if the Celtics don't get real lucky on the day of the lottery. Injuries to the Nets and other teams will obviously heavily influence how things go.
I'm not a big fan of Lopez but as a center with the right surrounding pieces, he is a good player when reasonably healthy. I don't think Lopez has fallen off like Rose..... JJ is a good player that I suspect could be dealt right before the deadline possibly helping or hurting the Celtics pick. Young IMHO is below average but not horrible. I've never been a fan of Bargnani but he is still capable of playing ok and coming of the bench with a defender or two may work out ok for the Nets.
I didn't watch a lot of college ball last year but I have still seen enough of RHJ the past couple of years that I will not be surprised if he contributes next year. Very good defense often translates right away so even if RHJ doesn't have tremendous upside on offense, he could help the Nets his rookie year with his defense.

I think Jack, Larkin and Bargs are some quality outsource tank assets.
If we go off of rpm, all of the Nets additions have been negatives: Larkin a stanky -4.33 (just beneath Ray Felton, for reference), Ellington a not bad -.16, T-Rob a weak -2.41 and Bargs with a glorious -5.29.
Meanwhile they sayonara'd their best rpm guy in D-Will (a +1.91), lost their 2nd best rpm guy in AA (+1.3) and waived a third mild positive in Cory Jefferson. They are also upgrading the role of one of their worst guys from last year - Jack (-3.5).
RPM is hardly perfect, but that's a pretty stark picture in aggregate. King looked like he was doing work with the RHJ move but every move since has been disastrous. Larkin and Bargnani might be two of the 5 worst rotation players in the NBA and they are set to play major roles for this club.
They've got a crumbling island of decency with JJ-Young-Lopez (and maybe RHJ) floating on an ocean of stank.
I think 32 wins is the ceiling for this bunch and that's dependent on teams like NYK and Detroit and Orlando staying bad enough for them to pad the win total.
I'm calling 27 wins and the #5 pick.

Re: Official BKN-DAL-MIN pick watch Thread 2015-16 season
The Nets are going to be bad this year, almost assuredly a top 10 pick. If Brook Lopez misses more than 20 games, they might be fighting with Philly for the worst team in the East. They lost D-Will, Anderson, Plumlee and Teletovic, four of their most productive players last year, replacing them with one decent player in Ellington and then a bunch of other guys who are hollow shells out there.

In the past you've criticized rebuilding teams for stopping tanking too soon. Obviously there are a lot of variables at play but how many more seasons would you tank if you were Minni?
