Congratulations, Jeff! I like some of the pieces Trisity Miller puts out. You'll be a wonderful addition to that staff.

Perry-Jones-to-Boston Deal

The Celtics basically got him for free with them even kicking in some cash to offset some (all?) of his salary. Plus, they get a 2nd-rounder as well. I wonder if the Clips could have extracted a 1st-round pick from OKC had Doc finished the Brendan Hawyood deal and took Jones, D.J. Augustin, and Steve Novak off their salary cap. Augustin would have been our backup PG with Jones our project 15th-man while Novak would have headed to Cleveland. Ah, c'est la vie.

Yeah I was really hoping we could have swung the deal to get Haywoods contract then gotten Novak, Augustin and Jones. Oh well. I bet he comes to the Clips next season on a min deal anyways. Doc loves guys who have had big performances against him.

Hudson to be Waived

Could be an indication that Hudson will not be a part of the deal for Haywood's contract and that progress on such a trade is not promising...at least without C.J. Wilcox involved in addition to Jamal Crawford.

The best part of Arthur’s offensive game is his mid range shooting. This year, he made 43.4 percent of his shots from 10-16 feet out and 43.1 percent from 16 feet to the three point line. To put that into context, the prolific scoring power forward that is LaMarcus Aldridge shot worse than Arthur from both those distances this season.
...

His defensive impact is his main weakness, as he lacks the size to excel as a post-defender, although he makes up for that somewhat with his speed to guard smaller players near the perimeter. When he plays with tenacity, though, he can make a real difference at both ends of the floor and provide energy in transition. Far more so than Big Baby can, at least.

It’s the reason why the offensive rating of Nuggets’ opponents dropped by 9.6 points when Arthur was on the floor. Yet, whilst that may be impressive, he’ll need to play at power forward and be partnered with either Jordan or Aldrich at center for the Clippers to have enough interior presence against opposing bigs.
...

On the defensive end, Smith can be just as ferocious. He held opponents to just 46.2 percent finishing at the rim while in Houston, and even put on a stellar performance from further out. When defending players from within six feet, Smith limited them to a field goal percentage of -9.4 less than their season average. And when edging out to within 10 feet, Smith forced opponents to shoot -8.6 percent worse than their season average.

Add on his 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals per 36 minutes, and it’s clear Smith can be a defensive factor all over the floor.

With the Rockets, Smith raised their offensive rating by 3.3 when he was in the game, whilst also lowering the offensive rating of their opponents by an average of 3.3. As a result, the Rockets’ net rating without Smith (+1.2) increased to +7.8 with him on the floor.

Who Should the Clippers sign? Josh Smith vs. Darrell Arthur

I'd be more than happy with either Josh Smith or Arthur but I think Josh Smith' defense will be more beneficial come playoffs when we are giving our starters much needed rest.

I'm not sure where we stand with all of our picks, but I'm guessing the problem is that Doc has dealt and leveraged the rights to our future 2nd-round picks where we can't offer any appealing picks in that round for a while. Why would a team wait to get a 2nd-round pick when they can get one sooner from another team without complications. Just another lesson for Doc the GM to learn in discarding our draft assets so nonchalantly. Even J.J. Redick thought he would have been a nice addition.

We've been giving away our future 2nd round picks since the Dunleavy/Olshey days. We traded away top-55 protected picks in the past, but that was before we had any idea that we'd have a top 5 record in the league.

2013 2nd was traded in 2009 for Alex Acker and 2011 2nd (Trey Thompkins).
2014 2nd was traded in 2010 for Bobby Brown.
2015 2nd was traded twice in 2009 for Hassan Adams and Cheikh Samb.
2016 2nd was traded in 2009 for Rasual Butler.

2015 2nd was traded in 2012 for Nick young

2017 2nd was traded in 2015 for Austin Rivers
2018 2nd was traded in 2014 for Byron Mullens

Our 2nd round picks are so complicated. For example, if it's 31-50, it goes to this team. If it's between 51-55, it goes to this other team. If it's between 56-60, it goes to this other team.

Geez, even the Clippers can afford a top-55-protected 2020 draft pick for Moe Harkless. To match salaries, I think we could have just included the non-guraranteed contracts of Hudson and Hamilton. Heck, I'd have given them Jamal straight up for Harkless if Orlando was interested.

I find it really hard to believe we could get Arthur or Josh Smith for the vet min.

well, nobody else has seemed to offer them anything worthwhile yet, so i think it's not so hard to believe.

What's so great about Harkless anyway? He doesn't really seem to fit a huge need on the team with Pierce and Johnson already signed

he's young untapped talent, the main resource this team lacks, and he could have been had for dirt cheap. nothing more, nothing less.

Random trade thought:
Jamal for Darren Collison

Only way I could see this happening is if Karl pushes to get Ty Lawson

I know DC has two years left on his contract and most people don't want to take on extra cap into 2016 but I'm worried that CP is going to stay as healthy as he did last season. I don't trust Austin starting at PG but I don't see Doc bring in someone to take away min. from him...

I fail to see who are we going to trade him to though, time keeps passing and he's still under contract with us...

We should be packaging him with a similar pick than the one OKC sent to Utah in the Kanter trade: lottery protected every year (depending on when we send Toronto the Dudley pick), and turns into two 2nds if it reaches 2021. See what's out there for that price, any half-decent big man or SF in that salary range works really.
