Where/When Do We Find Our Next PG?
I'm resigned to Jack this season as the starter and I don't see us finding much of an upgrade this year. We don't really have the assets/salary filler to land one, and I don't think we'd go back into the tax for one. Unless we could find one for Jack and Bogs making under $10m or so.
That said the FA crop next year doesn't look so great
Conley is the cream of the crop, but he's on a quasi contender in Memphis and it was rumored Gasol signed long-term thinking/knowing Conley is staying.
After that it gets ugly..
Rondo
Jennings
Vasuqez
and really no one else.
We might be able to trade for one next year using our cap space and perhaps add Bogs or C.McC or whatever others may view as assets, but I'm not sure who those targets.
2017 is the PG crop in Free Agency though.
Curry
Westbrook
Teague
Holiday
Rose
T.Evans
That seems our best hope.
But, does that mean we are stuck with one of the worst PG rotations for two more years?
Does anyone have any ideas on what we can do prior to then?
Does anyone have faith Larkin or Boatright could be close to an average starting PG in this league?

Re: Where/When Do We Find Our Next PG?
I'm desperately hoping we land Lawson now that his value is at an all time low.
Jack, Karasev and the unguaranteed deals of Clark and Miller. plus cash for Lawson works. They get cash relief with the unguaranteed contracts of Clark and Miller. They get an expiring contract in Jack and a prospect in Karasev.
Hell.. I would do Jack and Bogs for Lawson.

Once Lawson get waived, we should immediately get in contact with him and have a meeting, see where his head is .

Ok... beyond Lawson.
Not that he isn't a potential option but I'm sure other teams will be looking to buy low and have some money free.
Though, I'm not sure King would be interested considering what just happened with Deron and considering he's dealt with an undersized PG with alcohol issues before and I don't think things went well towards the end.

Re: Where/When Do We Find Our Next PG?
Westbrook should be the #1 target and I feel there could be some serious possibility because I feel the NY spotlight may be more enticing to Westbrook than Durant... only fear is the NYK play in this.
Other than that, idk. Do we go high profile name via trade? Rubio? John Wall?
Curry won't happen.
Right now, how important is the PG position? rather do we want a playmaker pg? a lights out shooter? defensive bull? athletic scorer?

Lawson is bad news, and after the last idiot we just got rid of we need leadership in the locker room, not grown men who are nearly 30 who need to be babysat
Windrem is reporting that Joe Johnson is "the happiest man in the room" in the Nets locker room since we dumped Deron, why bring in another idiot?

Re: Where/When Do We Find Our Next PG?
I wonder if any of these becomes available...
Holiday - if they think Evans is the PG, or conversely Evans if they think Holiday is the PG and Evans shouldn't play SF.
I.Thomas - they have Smart and just drafted Rozier
Walker - may be expendable with Lin there and if the team dissapoints
Jennings - though his injury scares me
Rubio - if they think T.Jones or Lavine can take over
Augustin - as he is expiring and they drafted Payne
Collison or Rondo - seems one may be the odd man out
T.Burke - they have a lot of young PGs.. worth taking a look at him?

Hopefully he's on the roster already coach likes Larkin and Jack both seem like backups but that leaves more money to be spent in other places.
Next year for sure they'll try to get Conley but like Gasol he'll probably stay in Memphis. I'd rather build from within just add a few pieces that fit the coach's style.

Looking at FA PGs in 2016, might as well have Larkin start. Try to develop him because I DONT see any FA PGs worth paying next year.
Jack and Lopez doesnt work anyway. Have Larkin PnR with Thad and Lopez. have Jack play with Trob and Reed because someone is going to have to rebound all those contested midrange jumpers.

Re: Where/When Do We Find Our Next PG?
I wouldn't push a real PG replacement til 2017 when that FA corps looks better for our PG questions.
BTW, Jack and Larkin could serve good stopgaps.... again, in our Hollins & staff system, how vital and what role does that PG play?

-Holiday is better than Evans and they probably agree. I think they'd keep Holiday is they had choose between the two.
-Thomas isn't a starter.
-Walker. Meh. I'd be ok with him as starter as a last resort, but I would try harder to find a better PG.
-Jennings. Same as Walker though I would prefer him over Walker.
-Rubio. Dude is never healthy. I'd pass.
-Augustin isn't a starter.
-Collison isn't a starter.
-Rondo. I hate Rondo with a passion. One of the most overrated players in NBA history. A malcontent guard that can't shoot, is a ball stopper and makes the offense worse because he dribbles the air out of the ball. Hell no.
-Burke isn't a starter

Walker would be my absolute dream. I am a UConn fan so I'm biased

Out of those other guys, Burke, Collison, and Holiday all seem like potential guys.
I wouldn't sleep on a trade for Bledsoe either.
Lawson is still intriguing to me if he (and this organization) played their cards right. I know we could make a trade for him and possibly get it done with Jack, Karasev +filler, but honestly I would like to keep Jack as a backup as he's great energy off the bench and Hollins likes him.... although I get a lot of bad flashbacks to him finishing games last season on defense and absolutely sucking.
Bottom line is we still need another guard to run the point. I think King should be looking at all candidates seriously, even Lawson.

I think the biggest heist would happen though if we signed Westbrook in 2017.
I could see us or the Knicks being very real destinations for him.

If Durant leaves, I'm pretty sure OKC is just going to trade Westbrook next summer as well. They're not a title contender and just contending for the playoffs in the West if everyone is healthy but KD is gone.
Also, the Knicks probably need to get rid of their association with the triangle. It doesn't matter that every NBA team uses different aspects of the triangle in their offensive sets. It now has a stigma against it. In fact, we've only heard today's players say negative things about playing in the Knicks system, nothing positive.
I'm sure other teams would talk about the lack of a need for a dynamic PG in the triangle and that could very well hurt Westbrook's decision on the Knicks as well.
If he likes NYC, we're at the same level or better than the Knicks, and he has a preference to avoid the triangle (if all things else are equal), I could definitely see him choosing the Nets over the Knicks.
However, I still believe that the problem is that we won't have the assets to trade for him. There's no way OKC is just going to passively let both stars go away for nothing, so I don't expect Westbrook to make it to 2017 FA with the Thunder.

Re: Where/When Do We Find Our Next PG?
I really wish we could've looked PG in the draft. We don't have great means to acquire one. We knew we were looking to buyout Deron at the time. Wish it was more of a emphasis. It wouldn't have been a bad situation for a rookie to come into.
I like RHJ and all, not really a fan of the McCullough pick. I wonder if the pick we acquired in the 30's for that stash plus some low level assets - Brown, Karasev plus the 29th pick could've moved us up a bit in the draft. Not a huge Tyus Jones fan, but value would be similar to what the Wolves gave up to move up and grab. Ideally it would've been great to grab Wright, but that's moving up a bit more. Likely would've need to move Bogdanovic to get it done.

Not happy with the Mcc pick either. Imagine if we took Joe Young

I don't disagree with you about Lawson and his current situation. It's bad. King and co. have worked to create a good vibe locker room and I have serious doubts that they would even want to chance having Lawson come in and bring in negativity.
I wouldn't trade for Lawson. But if he's waived, I think you have to at least have a serious look at him.
The main goal for this season is to make the playoffs. That's it.
Right now, I feel like we're definitely on the outside looking in and would need some breaks to make it. Maybe we play good enough team defense and play better than the sum of our parts, but that would be putting a ton of confidence/hope in a number of guys who are reclamation projects.
If Lawson is waived and he agreed to take a 2-yr vet.min. deal with team option in the 2nd year, I'm definitely leaning towards taking it. Even though there is a difference between his play at home and on the road, the road version of Lawson is still better than Jack and Larkin.
We're only looking at him to be here for 1 or 2 seasons max.
If he has another episode or acts up in anyway, he gets cut and I'm pretty sure he'd be blackballed by the league.

I take what he says with a grain of salt.
It's a convenient time to associate everything bad with D-Will and give off the narrative that "Now that the cancer is off the team, we'll no longer be held back and can play to our true potential.
There have been stories of Larkin being a big time sleeper, execs expecting JJ to have a tremendous year, and now JJ is extremely happy?
All of these things sound nice but we don't know if they're true and more importantly, how many times have we seen offseason proclamations of greatness amount to nothing during the season. I'll wait until the games are played before I judge what kind of JJ we're getting.

Agreed, I take what he says with a grain of salt as well. He was dancing around on draft day - saying how we were moving out of the 1st round that we don't want any guaranteed salaries on our books; his story was constantly changing.
I'm not he doesn't have connects, but people take his word as truth. It's easy for him as a mouthpiece to manipulate and change the narrative of the Deron buyout. It's much easier for fans to accept/support us ridding ourselves of this huge cancer, that everyone hated him, that our front offices mistakes were because of him than to hear that this was a financial move to avoid the repeater tax. Andy Vasquez had a good tweet on the subject that this was a financial move and they will spin this as something other than that. Joe Johnson was I believe the one player that openly came to Deron's defense in the playoffs, said that he was battling injury and to leave him alone and now he's the biggest DWill hater alive?
I'm sure that the decision involved a mutual desire to part ways, that Deron was looking to move on, but a lot has come out since the buyout to paint the story a certain way. And I'm not saying I don't support the decision, but just saying our front office/Bob W are a bunch of spin artists.

If i had to guess id say the same way we got our last 5-6 point gaurds.... via trade:
dwill - traded for
Harris - traded for
Kidd - traded for
marbury - traded for
Cassell - traded for
Alot of people tend ot think we have to spend all our cap space in free agency. that isnt always the case. you can use it to help make trades. maybe someone regrets signing say reggie jackson and moves him for cap space. maybe someone with a PG wants to chase durant and needs the space so they deal us their PG to make room. maybe some pending free agent gets traded here so the team doesnt lose him for nothing. maybe some PG demands out and puts us on his short list.
not saying it happens, but it is certainly a possibility.
