So I was browsing the 76er's threads to see how Okafor was looking to them, they've already got posts speculating how much better they think he'll be compared to Wiggins.

They've got some serious WDS (Wiggins Derangement Syndrome) going on over there!

They are fans. Noel did very well at the end of the year and played some amazing defense. You can make a legitimate case for him using some advanced metrics. I certainly think Wiggins deserved the ROY, but I don't find it shocking that any fan base would argue that their rookie should have been ROY, especially if there is some evidence to support it.

Agreed, I had Noel on my fantasy team, very aware of his defensive stats, but his offense wasn't good, and he really wasn't very good in the first half of the season. . I almost dropped him. .

The Canadian men's basketball team will battle at the Pan Am Games without NBA rookie of the year Andrew Wiggins or defensive star Tristan Thompson.

Canada Basketball announced Friday that the team will be selected after a six-day tryout from July 12-17.

The 16 invitees include Anthony Bennett from the Minnesota Timberwolves, Sim Bhullar of the Sacramento Kings and the Orlando Magic's Andrew Nicholson. The team will be whittled down to a 12-man roster, which will be announced before July 18.

There are four glaring omissions to the Pan Am team: Wiggins (Timberwolves), Thompson (Cleveland Cavaliers), Kelly Olynyk (Boston Celtics) and Cory Joseph (San Antonio Spurs).

Joseph, a versatile point guard and Thompson, a rebounding machine, are both restricted free agents so playing without a contract is not an option.

Wiggins and Olynyk, an emerging centre, will represent Canada but it will be at the all-important men's Olympic qualifying tournament in Mexico City from Aug. 31-Sept. 12.

"We have NBA players like Cory Joseph and Tristan Thompson that are still working out contracts," explained Canada's national team head coach Jay Triano.

"[As for] Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Olynyk, teams have asked that we take care of them this summer so participating in both events was not going to be something that we thought would be a good idea on both ends. Those players will be available later on in the summer [for the Olympic qualifying tournament]."

Training camp will continue at Toronto's Air Canada Centre until the competition begins on July 21.

It's good they won't be overworked by participating in two tournaments. Having said that, can't they use the PanAm as a qualifier for the Olympics. I think that's how it's done in Europe, if I remember correctly...

Now this is curious to me, because he really doesn't have what I think of as a dominant body type. Who does everybody think is the best player ever who had a physique similar to Andrew Wiggins?

Hmm, I normally don't dabble much in draft combine measurements, but perhaps T-Mac? He had about 2" longer wingspan, but same hight and like WIggins he also used his craftiness more than sheer power (LeBron) or range (Durant) to score at will. They weighed both 200 pounds after being drafted, but T-Mac put on some more muscle and peaked at 220. I think Wiggins could and should also add a little more weight if he wants to be a longterm SF.

McGrady and Pippen are a couple of good ones. Some others I thought of are Drexler and Worthy.

Team Canada should actually be a factor over the next several years. That's a team that has a shot to medal in the world games and olympics. Will be fun to watch. I have really had a blast watching wolves on international teams the last few years.

I think he's one of the most physically gifted wing players ever. Physical profile reminds me of a taller MJ

6'8 with 7 ft+ wingspan. GENERATIONAL quickness and explosion for someone his size and strength. He might have the best second jump in the entire NBA. Has huge hands, might be one of the most underrated aspects of physical gifts. Lets him use his supreme athleticism when attacking the rim and simply palm the ball away from the defender watching them as they helplessly fall back to the ground.

Dude was a 19 y/o kid posting up teams best perimeter defender and putting in work. He has the broad shoulders and overall body type to put on another 20 pounds without losing his speed. That's when he will truly dominate.

OK. Clyde the Glide, Scotty Pippen, James Worthy and T-Mac. Those are pretty good names. I would be especially thrilled if he could develop like McGrady or Drexler. Those guys seem like the ones Wiggins' game could be most similar to. (Pippen and Worthy just seem like more physical players than Wiggins.)

One of the things I loved about Wiggins his rookie year was the willingness to go in the lane and poster somebody. That's not a skill a lot of dunkers have. Zach LaVine included, at this stage in his career. Many of the greatest in-game dunkers in NBA history got that status because of their poster dunks, not dunks on the fast break or when no one challenges them at the rim. Wiggins already made that step as a rookie, Shabazz has it already, and I'm hoping Zach can take that next step.

Changing topics slightly, but thinking ahead to the dunk contest in Toronto...I hope Wiggins puts his name in the ring. Having both guys would be reminiscent of the 2000 dunk contest with VC and TMac...ironically both playing in Toronto at the time. That alone would be enough to make the contest worth it...would love to see the two of them trying to one-up each other. Don't even care who the other contestants would be. For contest judges, I'm thinking both Vince and TMac (...if Vince can since he's still in the league). Throw in Steve Nash for the Canadian pride, even though he can't dunk. For some idiotic reason I think Drake is a lock to be a judge. Not sure on the fifth judge.
