You still need to hit that Zach thread on the general board and make some good posts.

Ive read that whole thread and am trying to refrain from posting in it. Its amazing how it starts out and how all of a sudden 76ers fans start bashing us out of nowhere, turning into what it is now, a 76ers Vs Suns (Noel Vs Len) thread. Yeah, just ignore that we win more games every year, while talking about how they made the playoffs 1 year since we havent. Ignore that we play a larger majority of our games against better teams in the west and would have made the playoffs EVERY YEAR if we were in the sucky Eastern Conference like them.
Somehow they feel like they have a better future. Its comical.

IIRC a lot of us were pleased when McD started the full-on tank before things went shockingly well winning 48 games. Had we been terrible these past couple years collecting top-3 picks I'd be defending McD for his longterm patience. I don't have a problem with either the Suns or Sixers current plan.

Iirc, Kerrsed was on the pro tankers bandwagon prior to that '13-'14 season as well. But I'm with you, I wouldn't have had a problem if we took that approach either.

Ideally you need to find an middle ground between the two divergent and seemingly polar paths. You gotta know when the ship is no longer steadied on course and decisiely blow it up at the right time so you put yourself in a position where you have a higher liklihood of acquiring a franchise talent via the draft which is nevertheless a crapshoot and game of chance. Suns were never willing to go down this riskier route due to Sarver wanting to play it safe and operate on a profit and opting to field a squad just intriuing enough to sell tickets and remain in the hunt(which we still miserably fail at due to overpricing). You can't bank on just one avenue so it helps to actually have pieces in place before you start up the tank, something the Sixers obviously forsook because they were worried that it would get in the way of their suckage. Yet as a GM you can't entirely gut your roster and treat it as a mere conglomerate of expendable assets to play career DLeaguers and absorb scrubs on terrible contracts just to gain more picks the reasoning being "The more shots you got the less you miss". Hinkie turns a profit by operating well under the cap floor and manipulating a loophole in end of the year salary calculation s. Over $22 million of #Sixers' $54M payroll last season was spent on at least 6 players waived after being acquired in trades. What the Sixers are doing is simply gaming the system and imbibing a culture that incentivizes losing that simply can't be overturend once they are satisfied.Too many wannabe GMs are drinking the Hinkie koolaid and chanting the "Trust in the process" mantra in hopes of self-validation

Gaspar and I have done our duty there, despite some unreasonable people, but he has done even more.

Lol that JDrizzle guy is beyond reproach. Quote on quote" Comparing Len to Noel is like calling Eddy Curry Baby Shaq."
1UPZ wrote:But 76ers are just tanking without a specific plan. They just want to keep picking top 5 every year until they draft a star.
I too was on the "Strategic Draft Positioning" direction post Nash era.... but you have to have a window and then you have to have a Free Agency plan to go along your Draft / Development plan. Players move around the league and players can easily opt for a Qualifying offer and leave after their rookie year. So blatantly tanking year after year without "building" around your high draftee is not a good approach. Thunder lucked out... they nailed Durant, Harden, Westbrook.... thats just ACE of a draft portfolio.... probably best in the last 20-25 years... 76ers trying to repeat it so soon... not gonna happen.
They should be signing players to fit around Okafor, Noel now... even trade Embiid for proper players/depth. They could make the east playoffs if they actually "TRY"....

I agree. I was happy with the chance at Wiggins or Parker, but when you do what we did, what are you going to do? Dump the players that showed success in hopes for something better? Not going to work.
