Yeah you aren't going to see Rio with much or any rope this season. The Heat have had there hands tied behind there backs for the past few years with salary being spent so they haven't been able to pick up a guard to replace Rio. Now that Dragic is here for a full training camp you aren't going to see much of Rio once he starts making mistakes. Heck Spo even started Norris Cole over that shows the team doesn't have confidence in him.

His value on the team right now is knowing the system, he is a value to helping the young kids learn quicker. Like a previous poster said above I would also like to see him moved at the deadline for an improvement for the team even if it's draft picks.

Rio flat out said he didnt know his role on this team in APRIL. What system? There is no system that he can teach others... Please.

I am glad there are better options now but Rio is basically costing Arison the same amount as Wade this season. Up to him if he thinks the extra money is worth it. Rio can be valuable as like the 3rd-4th guard off the bench for 10 mins on this team

What does that have to do with his play last year? Rio has his moments, and most of us would keep him (but limited play), but with that logic we should have kept Cole. The same Cole who hit big shots for us in the playoffs, despite averaging 4pts ppg on 30% shooting in January. Its all about the past right there lmao

It really annoyed me when he said that. Literally half of the team was injured at that point, sorry your role keeps changing, but just go out there and help your team get to the playoffs. He's a vet, he should know better than to complain to the media about that kind of stuff.

I assume he didn't know his roll because it changed on a nightly basis due to injury and rotation changes. He was giving himself an excuse for playing poorly, it might be valid considering the season.

EDIT: to be clear I'm not defending him, we need an upgrade.

When you look at how the Heat has spoon fed the starting PG roll to Chalmers year in and year out, spite of having his starting spot taken by numerous PG acquisitions after him, we gift wrapped him the roll simply out of financial situation. Chalmers was our starting PG by circumstance not by skill. What also helped Chalmers retain the roll is the fact that he also plays both ends of the floor, wich is always going to be a positive for this organization. Furthermore we also used Wade as PG wich made Chalmers some what more bearable.

When you look at Shabazz Napier he is also defensive minded, but he is also a true PG who has a natural knack for passing, much more than Mario. I'm sure if you swap their careers & we drafted Napier in 2008, when we lacked the cap space to sign legit PG's, Napier would have also been gifted the starting 1 spot, tolerating any shortcomings and letting him start all 82 games in his rookie season like Chalmers and help give him confidence at an early stage of his career, like we gave Chalmers. After all Chalmers was drafted during a time when we had a far stable roster and Wade was in his prime. Napier was drafted into a far more mediocre team, a team who were injury plagued all his rookie season - not exactly an ideal way to start off a rookie's professional career in the NBA.

Give any mediocre PG the starting roll in an organization like Miami, in a non contending season and watch his confidence sky rocket. This is Chalmers career. I think Napier can only improve at this early stage of his career. He has shown that he has the necessary and natural skills a pg must have to make plays, find players and set up team mates. He has also shown his commitment on the defensive end, wich is what the Heat wants from all of their players. What he needs to show is improvements also in his shooting. I believe once he starts knocking down shots at a decent % clip it will make his over all game better.........All he needs is confidence & that comes w/ minutes.....minutes that Chalmers has been handed.

I understand Chalmers has experience, wich is valuable & cannot be taught or taken away, but i feel we are moving on from the past and are again in the process of building a contender. Chalmers time here should come to an end, we've shown him nothing but loyalty by giving him opportunities time & time again but it's now time to give that same faith & opportunity to somebody else who has the potential to be a better PG for the Heat. This is not 2008/2009, we have addressed our PG issue w/ Dragic, we no longer need to give Mario unnecessary opportunities.
If u don't want 2b here, the way things work, u don't like it, then don't b here. U have 2 stand on something. If Miami ain't standing on something, they become alot of these organizations trying 2 find their identity. This is the culture, bro -Wade

this right here is money. Napier actually cares about defense and winning , at an even different level than chalmers. lets just see how he fares this season off the hernia but i have good vibes. he is getting use to nba pace and finding cutting off pentetration. a naturally gifted passer since he smoked brandon knight twice his freshman year in college

You must be related to Napier to be so ardent a defender of someone who won't be in the NBA in 3 years time.

this right here is fantasy.

Well no one is denying his talents when it comes to handle the ball (dribbling and passing). I even made a sig about it and it's funny that Napier got so much fans on this board but no one wears an avi nor a sig

Image

i find it very when Bazz got 2/3 max good game offensively in november then people are saying he played great the whole november.
When you say :

He has shown that he has the necessary and natural skills a pg must have to make plays, find players and set up team mates. He has also shown his commitment on the defensive end, wich is what the Heat wants from all of their players.

When and where ? Are you talking about pick up games ? he better made some good moves in games made for him lol, it's like an all star game type game with no defense so of course he will draw a lot of attention when he drives to the paint and pass the ball, but that level is by far away from a regular season game and lets not talk about a playoff game where people knows your weakness.
Last year, i had already noticed he tends to hold the ball way too much and it's the same during that summer league (i will give you one excuse as sometimes the players he played with were trash but i havent seen any improvement so far about it).

Sorry but his defense is and will always be a problem. And more importantly, his behavior is by far my concern, "i know more than the coach..." I mean he could be right but as long as you are a rookie, shut up and play then when the coach trusts you then you can elevate your game. he still doesnt get it, he tried to play his game but it didnt work so he got sent to the d-league : Did he say ok i will try to understand what the coach is trying to tell me but no he was crying over and over...

As i said, i wish him all the best but he is not the right fit for the Heat.
Keep in mind the playoffs, you have to look at the big picture, do you really want him as your backup point guard ? Chalmers is there by default, of course i would want him away from this team as he had many occasion to rise but i dont want to trade him at all cost especially if the backup answer is Bazz.
I will still cheer for him because sometimes i know he will give us some nice highlights

lol who the fug would rock a rio or Napier sig! sigs is on some nerd ish.....it has nothing to do w/ the fact that rio has been a disappointment for most of his career here in Miami.

The fact that there has been countless amounts of reports stating we are trying to offload Chalmers is a clear indication that Heat are ready to move on......are you?!
