Not worthy of a poll, in my opinion.

Drummond will get 5/120, whether he's currently worth it or not. If we don't offer it, he won't sign an early extension.

He is worth the max and will get the max and that's the bottom line because stone cold Stan Van Gundy will say so.

Obviously max. Who's the doofus who says he's only worth $16mil/year in this market....Only worth 4/5ths of Demarre Carroll's yearly take-home?

Guaranteed max. Deserves it. Give him his money and lock him up. Can't wait until he signs!

So what's the holdup then? Reports came out that they were in negotiations. If we're offering MAX, why hasn't he signed yet?

According to my guy on the inside, the money is taken care of but there are some heated discussions over the color of the ink. Andre just treated himself to a new pen that writes in a kind of sparkly dusty mauve color and the Pistons brass wants him to go with a more traditional black (somewhere within the typical ebony to onyx range). These types of back and forths and typical and don't be surprised if they end up compromising on a semi-traditional navy blue.

We should absolutely give him the max. My question is, can he get a better contract if he waits until next summer to sign his extension?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I don't claim to be an expert on the cap, but what I've read is that signing now or next summer would make no difference in the case of a max extension. This was based on such an extension being a percentage of the cap in place at the time the extension kicks in.

Early on in my career someone told me always sign with a blue pen so you know which is the original document.

A max is what it will take to get him locked up now.

Anything less and he'll wait things out till next year.

I really wish I could have the two minutes of my life I spent on that article back. And the jack that wrote it should probably be hoping for the 45 seconds it took them to think it up back. That article literally said NOTHING.

I was a little lost by it too. Was hoping maybe somebody would say something about it. This sounds like it would help tho

But the two sides could agree to wait to sign the deal next off-season and preserve $13 million in salary cap room next summer.

Yeah the ridiculous part is him speculating that Drummond could end up signing an offer sheet with another team lIke that's some type of detriment to the Pistons. How idiotic would that be on Drummond's part?

I agree with everyone else, that hes getting the max.Right now,I think 90 is fair, but were paying for dre future and hopefuly his future is worth the max and he ends up better than DJ..Could you imagine if dre decided to take less to give det to build a better team, which would give det and dre a better chance at a title..One can only dream.

Dre is getting the max. They might mess around and delay it until next summer just so that his cap hit isn't as big, but he's getting the max.

Personally, I think they should just wrap him up now if at all possible. Everyone is going to have cap space next summer, so that is less valuable than usual. As we saw again this summer, no big Free agents are signing here. Our cap space is most useful in making trades work, and if everyone is under the cap, that isn't all that valuable.
