Pick One for Your Team: John Wall or Boogie Cousins

If you could only have one player, which player would you have on your team?

John Wall.

Theres a chance Cousins doesn't pan out, and continues being a guy with impressive stats and a bad attitude on a lousy team.

I'd pick Wall over Cousins because Wall is an elite passer who raises the game of his teammates and has a good offensive game himself. He is also a good defensive player. DeMarcus has yet to make it to the postseason

Wall.
High IQ guy who can run my offense and get my players the ball in the best position possible. Boogie is the moodiest player in the league. It would take so much energy out of a coach to keep him mentally stable.

Give me the dominant big man. The only reason he isn't a consensus top 10 player is because his team has been a dumpster fire for the duration of his career to this point.

If we had a need at center I would definitely take Cousins, I love Wall but I just think Cousins is a better player, an absolute beast trapped in a god awful situation....

But the difference between MCW and Monroe is enough that I would rather take Wall for fit. Wall-Middleton-Jabari-Giannis-Monroe would be FILTHY. Wall fits our oversized, tenacious defense perfectly and his speed and vision on offense would be unfair to pair with Giannis and Jabari in the open floor.

Cousins has never had a Paul Pierce or a Trevor Ariza. Cousins has never had a Nene, an Emeka Okafor, or a Marcin Gortat. Cousins has never had a Brad Beal. Wall even had Kirk Hinrich and Gilbert Arenas before Flip Saunders was fired.

The team around Cousins has consistently stunk. Name ONE player of the caliber of the teammates Wall has had.

I hear a lot of rhetoric about Cousins but none of you have mentioned Team USA. How did Cousins do with Team USA? What did Coach K or Coach Boeheim or Pete Carrill say about Demarcus?

I think Cousins will end up like Zach Randolph. I remember horrible press about Z Bo, for years, before he became a Grizzly. (With teammates like Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, and Tony Allen).

So far, I have read 4 alarmists posts. How did Cousins interact on the All Star team or with Team USA?

Yeah I really really like Wall a ton, but its Cousins. Wall is a top 5 PG, Cousins a top 2 at worst big man. He's improved on D, fantastic offensive powerhouse, and has a dumpster fire around him.

Mentioned before that Wall has plateaued at this point and probably largely is what he's going to be. And he's quite good. But he's also just off the Top 10/superstar pace. His PER the last 3 seasons: 20.8, 19.5, 19.9. His TS% the last 3 seasons: .521, .524, .523. This is probably who he is, an 18-20ppg 8-10ast guy with a shaky shot. He's settled in as a Top 20 guy, but not a Top 10 guy.

Cousins is greater than that. Saying he's Top 10 softpedals the fact that he's putting up all time center numbers before he's 25. He's the sort of talent that can make a serious run at an MVP once they finally put a team around him. I'm pretty sure John Wall can't be the best guy on a title team. Cousins could. There's only a handful of those guys in the league at any one time.

Easily Cousins. People dont realize how amazing he is because of the trash in SAC. Motor runs hot and cold... which isn't good but it makes his numbers even more impressive. The guy is an animal with skill and has made himself into a good defender.

Just read your signature, MotorKeepsGoing.

I don't understand why Charlotte let Biyombo go.

Vonleh and Biyombo out. Building on Zeller and Kaminsky.... interesting. I would have thought one defender and one skilled big is who they kept.

Also, as much as I want Boogie Cousins WITH John Wall on the Wizards; I think Washington could use Big Al Jefferson.

I kinda agree with this. I mentioned in another thread on here that Wall's numbers were pretty modest last season. He was good, but not superstar good. He coul be though, and that's what frustrating at times watching him. He's no where near as aggressive as he should be (particularly as a scorer) when you consider how gifted he is.

Big part of it though is the fact that he's been playing with lane cloggers since day 1. The closest thing we've had to a stretch 4 in Wall's tenure is Pierce and Drew Gooden in the playoffs last season, and you saw how dominant Wall was when he had an extra shooter out there.

You'll be seeing the Wiz go small a lot more this year from what's been said so expect his numbers and his PER to increase.

John wall is a good pg in a weak conference and cousin i think might be great but pretty much puts up empty stats on a **** team like love does really. I won't really know how good boggie is till he playing on a team with some players and can get to a ps which pretty much what matters in the end anyhow.

John Wall takes the Jazz on a playoff run. DMC does not. It's about winning.

In general I'd take Cousins. I feel like there's an abundance of PG talent in this league, which Wall doesn't stand out of. But at Center, there is nobody producing at the same level as Cousins.

Specifically for my team... That's a tough one. It's replacing Whiteside or Dragic. I feel like the gap is slightly bigger between Whiteside and Cousins so I'll go that route.

Dragic/Wade/Deng/Bosh/Cousins with Chalmers/Green/Winslow/McRoberts/Whiteside is lovely.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Fact is there are plenty enough good/great PG's but you can count the good/great big men on 1 hand so I'll take the rarer one which is Boogie

Wall is better than top 10 pg. He is top 4. All you had to see is his playoff impact. He has the ability to impact both ends of the court like the others can't. Put him with a modern offense and watch out. He makes his teammates better, and is his teams best defender and his defense is what disrupts the opponents offense. Granted, teams don't really pick up their intensity defensively until...the playoffs, so you don't see the all around impact until then.
Wall is the choice. Remember, the game belongs to the perimeter players now.

Cousins, at least in part because the point guard position is so saturated right now. Wall is outstanding, but there are so many good ones.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

IT? Rudy Gay? Darren Collison? If DeMarcus needs a good situation around him to get it together he loses points in a comparison to guys who show up no matter what their team situation is.

John Wall is improving as a passer every year. So what if he isn't the greatest shooter Jason Kidd is one of the top 10 PGs all time and he isn't a great scorer at all. Wall's ability to facilitate an offense and make his team better matters way more and he's elite at that. Probably the best passer still in the league next to CP3.
