Al is pretty good from the mid-range, he needs to take those shots early in the game and position himself in that area more to draw out his defender to open up the lane for Kemba and MKG. Really, he just needs to be positioned away from the basket more than he has been.

In midrange Al averages 39.2 to Hill at 38.0.

Inside of 5ft they shoot exactly the same and in the restricted area Hill has about a 2% advantage.

I think he did us a favor expecting us to give him a role with our team that will increase his value for next offseason. He may have also done us a favor to help make the team better by signing for the biennial exception instead of the MLE, which we still have available to us.

We are not seriously comparing Jordan Hill to Al Jefferson and suggesting they are on the same tier as players - ESPECIALLY on the offensive end. Are we?

Jesus, this board might have just hit a new low in it's hatred for Al Jefferson.

While I despise Al for all his worthlessness, I was only providing the numbers asked for. I am not sure Hill is not the better overall player in terms of what he provides on both ends but he is not near the offensive weapon Al is.

It's getting rather ridiculous

I'm really looking forward to seeing cut into the paint and finish at the rim - which he does really well.

He tends to twist and turn when he's there rather than using his left (he goes left, but doesn't really use his left).

Would love to see him work on that a little so he can protect the ball a little more.

I was pretty angry at Al last year for obvious reasons, but I am also rather excited to see what Al brings next year. If (and these are some big ifs), Al comes to camp lighter, in shape and injury free, if Clifford is serious about de-emphasizing Al in the offense and if Clifford dials back his minutes a tad to keep him fresh for when he is in the game, then we could have a nice version of Al.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

I don't know that I would agree that Al needs to be shooting more midrange J's though like some have said.

Edit: Sidebar, but a similar story to the one about your son. I was in a Chinese restaurant a couple of months ago and after eating went up to pay. The dude nearly p*ssed his pants giggling with excitment when I walked up and asked "excuse me - are you someone?" I guess he hadn\t seen too many 6'7" dudes? It was pretty funny.

Too funny. Check it out I dug these up . . . people asking to have their picture taken with Sam. This boy asked if Sam knew Michael Jordan

and that guy on the right riding coattails
Image
(ps I remember telling Sam after an attractive young businesswoman in an elevator touched his hair that he should definitely move to China when he grew up. Sadly, my hair is dark. he got the locks from his Mom)

I think they want to take pictures with you because some Chinese never seen a white person before. China was pretty closed but now it is more open.

It reminds me about a Chinese friend who was in NYC and some white people wanted to take pictures with him. He asked them why and they said they are from Kentucky and they never seen a Chinese person before lol. That was back in the 80s. I am sure you can still find people like that in hickville USA somewhere.

You are right. But I think it's more of a Disney-effect. Since I'm from China then I think my opinion could be kinda.. legit. Chinese (especially girls/ladies) think your lil kids just look cute like those characters from Disney cartoon/movies.

Time will tell. Lin probably wants to play well, opt out after a year and sign a better long term contract. Cap's gonna rise next year.

Jordan Hill is deadly from midrange.......sometimes, prob is he's not very consistent

J.Hill's mid range is good.
But the Lakers had Boozer and Kobe last season and they loved to shoot mid-range.

The LA spacing was poor b/c of that.
Lin had to start with 3 mid-range shooters.

A piece from 704Sports on the impact of Linsanity on the Hornets fanbase.

http://704sports.com/2015/07/17/the-improbable-rise-of-linsanity-an-international-fanbase/?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=socialnetwork

Not much new info, but it's interesting to see the phenomenon from the perspective of a longtime Charlotte-based organization (they even have Charlotte's area code in their name!) that covers the Panthers, Nascar, and the Hornets.

Unbeknownst to most North American NBA fans, Jeremy Lin has an international following that rivals almost any current or former player not named Jordan, James or Bryant. Within minutes of the signing, fans swarmed the Hornets social media outlets by the thousands to support and congratulate Lin for embarking on his newest NBA adventure, in Charlotte. Outside of the Linsanity movement that turned Lin into an overnight celebrity, what makes these fans so extraordinarily passionate about him? To answer that, you need to start from the beginning of Jeremy Lin’s very improbable path to the NBA stardom.

--------

Overnight, Lin not only became the toast of New York, but an athletic superstar the Asian community so rightfully deserved. While some will point out that Lin never truly played at the the same level as a Rocket or Laker, it’s worth pointing out that Lin was marred by coaching styles and systems that didn’t fit his play. With the Hornets, Lin will have the opportunity to play more freely than his previous two teams and it’s not impractical to expect increased production from him.

Looking back at all the unjustified adversity and racism that Lin had to face, it’s not difficult to recognize why Lin has such an immense fanbase. The unique player has broken racial barriers in the NBA, been the classic underdog that everyone loves, all while being a humble person in a sport filled with egocentrics. The fan’s that Lin has brought with him to Charlotte brings a new element of diversity to the Charlotte Hornets and I hope they’ve found a permanent home with us.

I don't think that's the problem. He was hitting his J at the beginning of the season, then he started not hitting them even tho he was playing with the same players and was open. He's pretty bad at D and in the low post. So when his J started to fail, he becomes almost a liability, his O Reb is the saving grace.

Yeah, the $3M that Biz got could have fit into the still unspent MLE that the Hornets have. I wonder if it was just a timing thing.

The college highlights around the 23,24 minute mark are interesting. He was dunking two handed in traffic.

Given that:
--Cliff prefers 5-man defensive gang-rebounds instead of having one of his players leak out for fastbreaks
--Al (especially if he comes in overweight) isn't going to be a fast runner
--Hornets in the past seem to have valued ball security and low-turnovers, so may not like high risk passes

Is there any chance we can see anything like these long pass fastbreak transitions where Lin does these football passes with pinpoint quarterback accuracy in traffic? More than once, these plays have demoralized the opposition as the opposition winds down the clock and struggles to score in the half-court and then immediately sees their hard-won points and work undone by these easy fastbreak points. Not to mention the excitement and cheers from the crowd amping up Lin and his teammates feeding off the dynamic speed and energy when the game becomes so much easier for them.

Or is something like that out of the question and a daydream at this point, given the Hornets' current composition and coaching philosophy? Though I wonder if the recent acquisitions may hint at them changing up things a bit.

Return to Charlotte Hornets
