Also, told you guys season two of True Detective couldn't hold up to season one :(. That first season was just too good.

T-bone continues to kill the soundtrack though.

Valid-Sick album. This from a guy that can hardly stomach modern hip hop. Suicide Doors, Luxury and Playing Favorites are probably my favorites. Truth be told, there's only one or two tracks I'd even skip.

Definitely, man. Sick beats, sick rhymes, the total package.

Is this your first time listening to Skyzoo?

Yes. Never listened and was instantly hooked. Will definitely be going through their entire catalog. I love intelligent hip hop. This certainly is that. Thanks for the rec.

If you like grittier Fantasy, Joe Abercrombie First Law trilogy is pretty good and Best Served Cold is fantastic. I also loved Lies of Lock by Lynch and plan to read sequels this summer.

I also like Name of Wind but book 3 needs to be a grand slam and I'm not sure it will be. If you like him, Brandon Sanderson Mistborn and Steelheart series are similar quality.

Most fun SciFi I've read recently was Ready Player One which is similar idea to the classic Snow Crash but more entertaining.

Just watched The Kingsmen last night and it was better than any James Bond movie I've seen (but admittedly I don't love bond movies.). Pretty violent but pure fun.

Loved The Kingsmen. Great story with comic book violence. What's not to love?

Have you checked out the Craig Bond's. They are unlike and Bond movies. I couldn't stand pre Craig Bond. Now, I love them.

You bet, man. Skyzoo has a lot of music out. I would recommend listening to A Dream Deferred next.

Anyone checking out "Ballers"? Show is awesome.

Gave up on complications. Deleted from the DVR.

Tbd...Wayward Pines, Aquarius and Zoo

A few years ago I bought the series on DVD (well, just the Diana Rigg era) and watched the whole thing again. It was still as inventive and different as it was in the late '70s when I had "discovered" the show, during one of their re-runs. Highly recommended.

Skyzoo is one of my favorites. He's been killing it since "The Great Debater".

I typically fall victim to the shuffle function but the Mr Green & Malik B album was one I often had to listen to front to back. Malik leaves a bit too be desired as an emcee but Mr Greens production makes it more than worthwhile.

The Ras Kass & Apollo Brown, and the Freddie Gibbs & Madlib album are the bestice heard in a while.

Yeah Freddie Gibbs is legit as ****. Also dig that album.

Anyone listen to the Brian Jonestown Massacre? Been listening to Take it from the Man again recently and it's as good as ever. Especially "B.S.A" and "Cabin Fever".

I can't tell if True Detective is getting better or worse, but last night's episode had some fantastic lines:

"Takes the edge off. I'm trying to stay angry."

"It's indica."

"Mama's boy."

Bumping this. What have you guys been consuming?

I'm currently reading the Aeneid, and watching "Ballers", "Power", and this Netflix show "Sense8" by J. Michael Strakinzynski (creator of one of my favorite shows, Babylon 5) and the Wachowskis.

I think all of these shows might be really bad. But I'm enjoying them enough to keep watching. Very entertaining stuff. And I've read the Aeneid multiple times, always a great reread. Classic stuff. Way better than the Odyssey or Illiad.

Definitely one of the best albums ever, but Liquid Swords >>>> in my opinion.

Liquid Swords is also my favorite Wu related album. Ghost has the best individual tracks though/my favorite mc style overall imo. Love me some quality Ghost.

^^^

Liquid Swords is one of the only albums that can stand next to Illmatic track-for-track, in my opinion. It's hard for me to even pick my top five favorite songs from Liquid Swords; let alone my favorite. I would probably have to lean toward either "Investigative Reports" or "Shadowboxin'," but man...it's tough to choose.

I love "B.I.B.L.E.," too, but that's actually Killah Priest's track and was basically a bonus on Liquid Swords, so I don't even count that for that album.

Interesting, I've always loved that track as the final track, and felt it really ties things together. Its weird how random verses from mcs that aren't the featured artist on the album can be some of the most memorable (thinking Inspectah Deck ;)). The album it's actually on though is largely terrible imo.

What have you been watching/reading/listening to, Valid?

Been listening to this guy--Kelley Stoltz--for like 3 weeks straight:

Big mishmash of Brian Wilson, John Lennon, Alex Chilton, R. Stevie Moore.

Dude makes it look so easy when you watch him live:

I been planning on making a group on facebook for Grandparents.

You hear a lot these days, of things targeted at (and/or including) Grandparents.
So anyway, this song is as close I can get to a recent song on Grandparents (also with a mention of a Great-Grandmother.)

I always liked Liquid Swords the most out of all the Wu-Tang affiliated albums, including 36 chambers.

Not surprising that a forum of hoopheads would be talking mostly hip hop. I've been listening to old rock lately, discovered a pretty obscure progressive rock album called A Tab In The Ocean by Nektar that is a really good listen. Short too, 4 songs.

Don't know if this has already been mentioned, but the new Batman Arkham game is outstanding. It picks up slowly with the Batmobile, but once you get a few hours in it becomes one of the coolest experiences of this gaming generation. I loved Arkham Asylum, but was disappointed by Arkham City. Arkham Knight is better than both.
Check it out, especially if you're a gamer/comic fan, or even if you're just someone like me who casually enjoyed the latest Batman trilogy.

Yeah it's definitely weird how that happens sometimes. For example, Ghost wasn't even on a couple of the songs on his own debut album. Always found that odd.

And damn, you didn't like the Killah Priest album? That's actually one of my all-time favorites. The production is lacking on some of the tracks, but man...the lyrics are crazy (assuming you were referring to Priest's album to begin with haha).

As far as what I've been listening to lately, pretty much older stuff. Outside of the Skyzoo album I showed you and Fashawn's most recent project, I think 2015 has sucked for hip-hop so far. I was really disappointed in Action Bronson and Joey Bada$$'s albums, and the last Kendrick project I liked was Section.80.

I am going to say something that is going to sound egregious: I have never been a huge fan of 36 Chambers. Yeah, it introduced the Wu and all that, so that's awesome, but to me, RZA's production on there is very bland, and some of the tracks just drag on for too long. I have it on my iPod, but I rarely listen to it (although "Method Man" is a cut that has a lot of replay value for me: "Question! What exactly is a panty raider?!").

If I'm in a mood to listen to the Wu, I'll either throw on Liquid Swords, OB4CL or one of the tracks off Ironman or Return To The 36 Chambers.

After Sunday's episode, True Detective is getting better for sure. Power and Ballers are both fantastic trash TV. I've mentioned Power here before. Ray Donavan's return was amazing! Really don't like the Wachowski's, so haven't checked it out.

1.-"Inside Out" was amazing...
2.-"Minions" was hysterical. No story or heart, but funny as a bastard.
3.-"Ted 2" was NOT "Ted"...Moments of humor, but a lot of disappointment.
4.-Checked out as little indie horror called "Creep" with Mark Duplas. Really well done, and this is coming from someone who hated found footage.
5.-Will see "Ant Man" tomorrow and will immediately regret not seeing "Trainwreck" once the credits roll...
