The 1.67 PPS last year vs 1.11 this year. Obviously his efficiency will drop with higher volume and having to create more for himself, but the 3P shooting is the main difference. Hopefully he gets the kinks worked out before the season starts.

Edit: Calculated PPP for his two summer league seasons and it's actually pretty close: 1.11 PPP 2014, 1.09 PPP 2015
Cutting down on TO and improved ORB has helped his efficiency significantly this summer despite the lower shooting %s. Based on this you can probably consider this stint a noticeable improvement over last year when you factor in the increased offensive responsibility and improvements on the defensive end.

He played alongside those same guys this past season and it didn't help him.

McDermott is playing very well in SL. But he dominated the SL last year and then struggled badly in the regular season. So I'm not going to get too excited until I see him translate his SL play to games that actually matter. I do think he has the ability to be a key part of the team in 2015-16. But will he actually become one? That's still TBD

Last year was hardly the same because when things got rough Snell always bailed them out. So Doug and the team leaned on Snell, this year Doug is the focal point and has carried the team in many situations especially the last game.

Some of the other differences is that last yesr Doug was scoring from alot from threes and the outside but this time hes getting many of his buckets in the paint and in iso situations. Plus his defense is a notch better this time.

Easy to say he looked the same looking at his stats but the eye test is his focus was Very different from last season. Not saying hes going to be a monster this year but his summer league was different than last year

You got that in reverse. Defenses swarmed on Doug while Snell received single coverage. Opposing teams feared Doug the most...and it wasn't until a foot/ankle injury sidelined Doug come Summer League postseason and Snell's shooting percentage struggled early in the game (he got going later in the game....but it was too little too late)...and the Bulls were eliminated.

Well its not really all about trying to win otherwise they'd bring in Snell, Moore and Mirotic and totally dominate the league(as would other teams), its about confidence and development for first and second year guys who dont play. Plus Snell already proved he outgrew the SL last year. Its better if McDermott/Portis/Bairstow try to win without Snell, its better for their development.

I don't know why you brought Moore or Mirotic because for sure they don't need the SL but as for Snell, he still needs improving.
SL isn't only about growth but getting ready for the camp and eventually the season for some confidence on their form and conditioning even if Tony won't be getting a lot of minutes.

Snell doesnt need improving in terms of his game. What he needs is playing time without short leash in real NBA games so he can show what he can do. Last summer league he made great strides and dominated as first option. He took team on his back and delievered. He showed slashing, shooting, handles and good defense. With Snell is everything about confidence and more I'll say role he plays. If he feels included into offense and teammates are looking for him to score he will do it. If he is just "there" to stand in corner he will suck. That's how goes with shooters. They need touches and they need playing time. He is young. He isnt vet with 10 000 minutes under his legs and mentally battle tested on his last legs.

Snell has proven zero, despite claims to the contrary. While I think Snell should be here because he needs reps, I trust the Buls have a useful alternative for Snell other than SL.

Thing is that SL won't help Snell much at all imo. He did a solid job last season and he can only get so much out of it that it would be pointless for him to be in SL now.

All the young players go through some growing pains during the course of the season but the issue was that Thibs had a short leash on Snell to a point that Snell wasn't able to just work through it naturally. Every player goes through the ups and downs and learn from it but Thibs never let Snell do that imo.

I think it was reported that Snell was at the Advocate Center training during the whole coaching process anyway and I will continue to believe he is still working out there with some of the coaches doing some individual workouts.

I really think Snell is going to have a break out season. If I was gonna bet on him or Dougie I'd bet on Snell tbh.

There aren't as many questions about his defense or athletic ability

I think both are going to do well this season. Doug just has a higher ceiling.

I dont think he is next Butler. Butler had type of mentality to be star even before break out, but he didnt had skills to do it on offense like stars do. But he definitely had swager. Now he just did go pure Hollywood on us.

Snell in other hand is silent type. But not silent type like Rose. Rose is silent but confident with swager. Snell doesnt have that swager and mentality to be star. Still think he can be very good player who will from time to time flash some great games where you will wonder he will break out but never does. Good defense, starter, shooting 3's, slash ocassionally have great games but never put it together. Something like Ariza.

If he is a star than I must congrats GarPax on best drafting GM ever with mid to late first round picks.

I think you're underestimating how bad summer league is. There's really not much for him to gain considering that he dominated on both ends last year and he's actually had a decent number of NBA minutes at this point in his career. To put things in perspective, he probably has nearly as many playoff minutes as SL minutes. You don't get good at anything by beating up on scrubs.

Same here. I see Snell being a solid two way player

I can't help, but like how McDermott's played. Not sure why some are disappointed.

Dont get it either, I was never a big fan of getting Doug but now that we have him might as well support him, being mad at FO or Doug about it isnt going to change anything
