Michael Bradley wrote:The offense is finally starting to wake up (Thomas in particular), but now Towers and Taubenheim are going to start 40% of the team's games until AJ and Chacin get back, so the Jays continue to have very poor timing. It's just one of those years where nothing clicks. The pitching will now regress while the offense wakes up. Can't seem to get both clicking together.

The next 14 games will be huge. One more against Colorado, then 13 straight games against teams the Jays are looking up at in the Wild Card standings (Twins, M's, A's, and Indians). I think the playoffs are beyond a pipe dream at this point, but playing meaningful games in August and September for a change would be nice. Hopefully they go on some type of run soon to get back to respectability. Try to finish the year with more wins than last year, at the very least.

Burnett is returning on thursday as far as I know, so Taubenheim doesn't even have to make another start.

Too bad. Looking at the radar numbers, he's probably tired...still hitting mid-90s on occasion, but quite a few fastballs in the high 80s as well.

Even without the no-no, still one heck of a performance.

Edit: and just as I say that, his velocity picks up a few MPH. Guessing he tightened up considerably starting the 9th.

A bit harsh, no? Well some people are very superstitious.. It's just part of sports. Obviously Dustin didn't hear Jim, but that isn't really the point

McGowan has ace upside, it's just a matter of harnessing his command and staying healthy. He'll be inconsistent, but he's going to have games where he's unhittable, and this was one of them. If he pans out, then we're looking at 3 power arms at the top of the rotation, plus a more polished young pitcher who is doing a pretty good job striking out guys as well (Marcum).

I've said this many times, but thank god for MLB giving McGowan an extra option year! Otherwise he'd be doing this on another team right now.

Isn't McGowan always in trade rumors? It seems like he's always been dangled in the rumor mill.. Remember the hot rumor that Halladay was gonna be sent to Colorado for Pedro Astacio? Phew!!!

McGowan was in trade rumors, which was natural since he has always been the Jays best pitching prospect as far as upside, but JP hasn't been tempted enough to move him. The Brewers wanted McGowan straight up for Overbay, IIRC, but Ricciardi turned it down. That was one of the few times Ricciardi opted for upside (McGowan) instead of projectability (Bush), and it looks like it has paid off as Bush has hit the crapper after a good year last year.

The Colorado rumor was actually Astacio and Jimenez for Halladay, Wells, and Carpenter, IIRC. It was absurd. Couple that rumor with what actually happened that same year (Michael Young for Loaiza), and it's clear that Ash was smoking something more powerful than anything any mortal man has ever come in contact with.

I'm just sick that every time it happens it's due to jynx...it's just part of sports too.

How can you NOT mention a no hitter after 8 perfect innings?

Anyways, enough of the jynx talk...he pitched a great game and I hope his confidence has reached a new level with that performance.
