Potential end of the season award winners?

Post#1 » by Entourage27 » Sun Jul 19, 2015 5:07 pm

If you look at the makeup of our squad I believe we have the potential to win at almost every NBA seasonal award. I want to see what your guys' takes are on all this as I try building a case for our players and these awards.

Let's start off with Reggie Jackson. He has what I would say is a top 5 chance at most improved player of the year. With him now guaranteed a starting role and a chance to be "the guy" he could really step up to the point where he could win NBA's Most Improved Player of the year.

Stanley Johnson is the self proclaimed best player in the draft. He has the swagger, confidence, and skill level to actually fulfill such a big statement especially if he can step into a starting role and play big minutes. He for sure has a top 10 chance at rookie of the year and barring injury I can see him make either the 1st or 2nd all rookie teams already.

Andre Drummond for defensive player of the year... Now I don't realistically see him winning this but I felt as if it still needs to be mentioned. Drummond has the rebounding aspect on defense down which is monumental but he needs to improve in every other facet on that side of the court. Of course we need the team playing grade A defense to help catapult Drummond to the conversation but if SVG can have us playing as a cohesive unit and Drummond can avg close to 2.5 blocks a game while W's are on the calender, I can see Drummonds name being mentioned in debates for the award. We haven't seen a Piston win this award since Big Ben Wallace. God do I miss those days.

Can Brandon Jennings win 6th man of the year? If fully healthy and playing with a great attitude, I can see Jennings as a top 5 option for the award. Jennings would be a Jamal Crawford type 6th man but at the PG spot. If he can dominate in this role, screw the award, we would actually start winning some big games with nobody better to lead our surprisingly stacked 2nd unit. This leads me to believe Jennings could win this award but obviously with the injury there are a lot of hurdles to climb. Jennings has a great shot at the award if everything works ideal.

SVG for coach and/or executive of the year? Let me start by saying that the only way for SVG to realistically win either award, we would need to be a 50 win team or better. If that is the case (I see us winning 43 games this year) he will undoubtedly be considered for such awards.

What are your guys thoughts? Do you see any of this realistically happening? Are there any other Piston candidates you feel can win an award?

Besides the guys/awards you listed I think KCP could win MIP.

I'll list them in order from most likely to least likely:

- Reggie Jackson winning MIP
- SVG winning COY
- Jennings winning 6th man
- Johnson winning ROY
- KCP winning MIP
- Drummond winning DPOY

What I think will happen:

- Reggie Jackson winning League MVP
- SVG winning COY
- Jennings winning 6th man
- Johnson winning ROY
- KCP winning MIP
- Drummond winning DPOY
- Pistons winning NBA Finals
- Reggie and Drummond 1st Team NBA
- All 5 Starters making the All-Star team
- Meeks winning 3 point champion
- Stanley Johnson dunking on Lebron then yelling "In Yo Face!!"

Because, Detroit VS The World.

Reggie and SVG are the most likely from our team to win an award. I also think Stanley is more or less a lock to make one of the rookie teams barring injury.

Drummond wont be winning DPOY. Not this year at least...unless Rudy Gobert and Kawhi Leonard retire tomorrow.

I think the highest likelihood award is actually Stanley winning DPOY
We have a lot of MIP candidates with KCP, Dinwiddie, RJ, etc but I don't think they will get it due to not having high enough usage
6th Man all depends on the lineups
My "super stretch" picks are Darrun Hilliard winning ROY, and Dinwiddie winning MIP :D
If I'm betting I say we get nothing :(

I think Reggie will have plenty of opportunity to make a big statistical improvement.

If you believe in his sample size with us last year, his usage will be right around the range of players like curry, Blake griffin and Anthony Davis.

Reggie and KCP could certainly become MIP candidates. Jennings could vie for 6th man of the year- if he's healthy early enough. Then, Stanimal for ROY if he can get enough minutes and produce.

Reggie's gonna get benched and/or demoted a bit... No way he's lasting 82 at elite player usage. SVG is smarter than that

Stan Van

Coach of the year

Stanley Johnson

Rookie of the Year

Stanley looks like the most aggressive rookie I've seen in a long time. He's going to score.

Stanley for rookie of the year seems the most likely to me with either a Jackson or Drummond most improved as the second most likely. I can't see SVG winning CoTY or Drummond winning DPoTY and I don't think we'll have anyone actually worthy of being the sixth man of the year this season.

I honestly think Stanley has a chance at ROY because of the fit on the team and he he's got the NBA ready body.
That's about it.
Drummond needs to be a defensive player before being considered DPOY. He needs to improve in a big way on that side of the ball.
I'd love for reggie and KCP to be in the conversation for MIP because that would mean we're in the playoff race.
Jennings for 6th man would mean the same.
