Pero Antic's Defense

Post#1 » by Goudelock » Tue Jul 21, 2015 5:55 pm

Was he a good defensive player last year? I said in the John Jenkins thread that Pero was a bad defender, after which a few posters said that he was actually a very good defender. All I remember is him fouling a lot and being slow on rotations.

He was good at being a big body and taking up space in the paint. He was a decent 1v1 defender right under the basket but you're right, he's slow on rotations and doesn't alter many shots

Pero wasn't a bad defender in the slightest. He knew his limitations. He didn't go for a lot of rebounds, just made sure to block his man out. He fought hard in the post and made the right rotations at the rim. he did a great job of showing on the pick and roll as well. He didn't challenge well at the basket though.

Denied post position, held up well in the post regardless, always made the right rotations even out to shooters, hedged well on the pick and roll.

Most people watched Pero with blinders on while only citing boxscore stats to determine his impact so it isn't a shocker that someone would think that he couldn't defend.

For a big man he was terrible. Too slow , terrible rebounding. He took up space and was the "ill just foul the guy if he gets by me" type of player.

He was servicable, but if I had to rate him it would be a 2/10. There were 50-60 better options than him
