Would you do: Crawford (+) to Cleveland for Varejao

Post#1 » by nba2k16 » Wed Jul 22, 2015 2:53 am

Would you do this move?

To Cleveland:
Jamal Crawford ($5.7M, 1 year left)
C.J. Wilcox ($1.2M, 2 years left)
Justin Hamilton ($1.0M, 1 year left)

to Clippers:
Anderson Varejao ($9.6M, 3 years left)
Two Future 2nds OR highly protected 1st round pick

Reasons for Cleveland:
    1) Replace JR Smith to avoid attitude problems and salary demands
    2) Reduce luxury tax by trading Andy's long contract
    3) Bring in younger depth players to complement old vets

Reasons for Clippers:
    1) Trade Crawford and hand backup backcourt reigns to Rivers and Stephneson
    2) Bring in a good backup C that is a good free throw shooter to play in crunch time
    3) Obtain future draft pick for youth or trade for future asset

Discuss below. Thanks for your thoughts!

we have no need or desire to pick up that toxic contract for 10 minutes of backup play who is injury prone to begin with.

but we do have a strong interest in taking on your Haywood's expiring for the said package.
ehhhhh f it.

cleveland would have to give us way more to offset it.

i love varejao but he's crazy injury prone and his contract is awful. they'd have to give us lots and lots of stuff.

As a Pistons fan during the Rasheed era, I always despised Varejao, but I must admit he is a great hustler and pest. However, he isn't worth it because of injuries and $

A Varejo who gets injured and doesn't play a single minute is still more valuable than having Jamal on the court IMO.

Its something to think about. I know his production to salary ratio isn't great, but Varejao on less minutes would substantially reduce the risk of injury. His contract becomes non-guaranteed in a few years so he'll be a nice trade chip to have when we're capped out.

Varejao's Contract Status

Post#8 » by Ranma » Wed Jul 22, 2015 6:16 am

While I'm a fan of Anderson Varejao's, I'm against sacrificing our cap space flexibility. Our roster is deep enough to where we don't have to taken on additional risks, especially with his susceptibility to injury. Basketball Insiders and HoopsHype have slightly conflicting cap figures for Varejao's contract, but the significant discrepancy is the non-guaranteed years of his deal. I suspect that HoopsHype is more accurate this time around in that regard and, if that is the case, I'd have to oppose the proposed trade even though Varejao would practically be a 1-year contract next summer.

Varejao has averaged 35 games played over the past 5 seasons and he's coming off his biggest injury yet. Love his game, but wouldn't trade straight up, let alone "Crawford + "

Would keep Crawford altogether. No way to get anyone that would be equal value to the clips. Not when you consider salary and game changing ability despite his mistakes.
