Ian Thomas

Post#121 » by Ranma » Sat Jul 25, 2015 9:17 am

Admittedly, I wanted Zach Lee instead and was disappointed with the announcement of Thomas. Obviously, he was impressive so I'm glad to be wrong.

Zach Lee's Debut

Post#124 » by Ranma » Sat Jul 25, 2015 6:05 pm

Yep, I'm looking forward to see Lee against the Mets today. It will be hard to top Thomas' performance last night, but Thomas had a rough go his first time out. I don't expect Zach to set the world afire but I'd like to see a solid outing from him. Greinke will likely start tomorrow.

feel bad for Zach.

he's not even really getting smacked around the park for this type of 1st inning.
but that's baseball.

he's gonna have to wear it and keep throwing….cant burn out this bullpen.

You'll Do Better Next Time, Zach.

Post#128 » by Ranma » Sun Jul 26, 2015 6:51 am

Yikes! I just came home and saw the score. Hopefully, Lee will learn from this experience and do better the next time. Ian Thomas had a bad outing during his major league debut, but followed up with a wonderful performance last night, so maybe Zach can follow in his footsteps.

smfh.

streak over.
Greinke with the hit batter
Joc with the error giving up an extra base.

that hurts.
come on Kershaw. Get back into the 40+ area with ur own streak.

I didn't at all like losing Heaney even if it was for Howie Kendrick, since I figured he'd be at least a highly-valued trade asset. He even had a good sense of humor about is brief layover during the transaction.

Yeah, that was painful to watch. Plus, Heyman started trolling again. I hope we destroy his New York teams from here on out.

Im just glad yet another dodger got that close to the record. I honestly do not think I would see Orel's record break until at least all my kids are out of college and I am getting ready to retire, or possibly not in my lifetime.

Drysdale's 58 consecutive scoreless innings was done in 1968. it took 20 years for Orel to break it. this time it may take 40 or 80 years before we see it break.

just a tidbit about nothing or maybe something.

Don Drysdale went to Van Nuys high. so did my wife. my sister in law who is getting married next year, had a little boy that followed around her when they were in high school that she rejected... his name is Joseph Gordon Levitt. yeah my sister in law isn't very bright lol.

I don't remember who, but I do remember getting into a little debate about the merits of Heaney versus Urias. I called Urias to have higher ceiling but right now Heaney is the most-ready pitcher the dodgers can add and count on, it doesn't seem like I was wrong about that assessment.

anyway, the game is tied!

coulda used that one.

Giants are hot.

I can't believe we are 56-44, still in first place, and I can't think of ONE point in this season where I've thought we were "hot."
We're due for a nice little 8-10 GWS.

Justin Turner Sidelined Due to Leg Infection

Post#135 » by Ranma » Wed Jul 29, 2015 6:59 am

I don't believe Hector Olivera is quite ready just yet but he's supposedly getting close.

Mark Saxon, ESPN (7/28/15)
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner was scratched from Tuesday night's lineup and sent to the emergency room after a pimple on his right leg became infected, according to manager Don Mattingly.

Trainers treated Turner with antibiotics over the weekend in New York when he brought the inflammation to their attention, but it grew worse on Monday and had become a source of major irritation by Tuesday.

New Lead-Off Hitter?

anybody down with putting Puig into the leadoff role and batting Joc 6th? I would say 2nd but Howie looks to be getting back into the swing of things there.

I think it could help both of those guys get their bats going. Not a fan of Yasiel trying to clean up for us.

Given what I said above, I'd be more inclined to give Rollins another shot at the leadoff spot with the caveat that he be made to understand that he should be actively changing his approach to batting. Instead of hitting fly balls all the time, Rollins should try to draw more walks, bunt, and maybe hit grounders more. Admittedly, it's not really a good idea, but I believe Rollins may be more capable of that role than Puig. To be honest, Puig at the leadoff spot makes more sense than Rollins, but I'd like to implement the aforementioned disciplinary action against Yasiel.

Eric Stephen, TrueBlueLA.com (7/28/15)
"He seems to be frustrated. I'm a little bit [concerned]," said Mattingly, who added there has been talk of moving Pederson out of the leadoff spot, where Pederson has started 67 of the last 81 games.
...

"He's working on different things. It's not like he's just going up there, I know it looks like he's swinging for the fences all the time. That's not what he's trying to do," Mattingly explained. "He's trying to get inside the ball a little bit using his bottom hand. He's frustrated.

"At some point Joc's going to get that front side thing, and he's going to be a monster. He's going to be tough to get out."

The Dodgers could use a monster or two in their lineup right now.

Don Mattingly Backs Slumping, Frustrated Joc Pederson

If and when Seager and Olivera get called up, should we then turn to Carl Crawford or Howie Kendrick as our lead-off hitter? This is exactly why I miss Dee Gordon. Heck, if we lose Kendrick to free agency, I'd call Miami about a Gordon-for-Puig deal provided the Marlins throw significantly more into the pot.

Olivera Not Ready

Ugh...looks like I was wrong...again.

Bill Plunkett, Orange County Register (7/26/15)
Whatever spark the Dodgers might get from Hector Olivera’s eventual arrival in the major leagues will continue to remain a mystery.

Olivera has not played in two weeks after experiencing renewed tightness in his left hamstring. The Cuban infielder originally suffered the injury on June20 while playing with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He spent the next two weeks at the Dodgers’ training complex in Arizona rehabbing the injury.

Olivera started playing games again in early July with the idea that he would rejoin the OKC Dodgers and eventually work his way to the big leagues. After six games with the Dodgers’ team in the Arizona Summer League, however, he was shut down again. Dodgers GM Farhan Zaidi didn’t characterize it as a re-injury but “a re-aggravation.”

Kershaw's hip:

truly an issue or did Don just see an opportunity to get him an extra day and line him and Greinke back up at 1 and 2?
