Should be really good a few years from now

Bennett over Olynyk?

I prefer

Joseph or Murray
Stauskas
Wiggins
Thompson
Olynyk

I much prefer Stauskas at the 2 because he perfectly compliments Wiggins at the 3

Great tourney so far, been to 3 games, plus todays (leaving soon). I have never been more excited for Olympic qualifying. I think should they qualify, I might take the summer off and go to the summer Olympics in Tokyo (2020) even if the likelyhood we medal is slim (would be nice if its good chance too). I really like Murray (obviously) and all the young kids, some entertaining basketball.

Enjoy the game guys.

Does anyone here thinks Canada has a chance to rank #2 in the FIBA rankings by 2020? Cause I was talking yesterday with some people and they think it's a possibility. Only teams that I think of that can challenge for that spot is Croatia, Serbia and maybe France/Brazil.

Don't forget about Australia, they can also challenge for that spot.

Nobody takes the PanAm games seriously. In 2011 we sent an all CIS team. In 2007 we sent some fringe national team guys.

I realize, but it still doesn't answer why. If i were an average american nba player who would never have a chance at representing the almighty US team i wouldnt mind a free trip and a pressure free tournament. And from the associations pov, why not use the tournament to practice. You dont have many opportunities for this, why not use it for guys who mighy actually matter.

I think so, great chance for us. We have a pretty reasonable sized population, but more importantly among the population we have that athletes have a good chance to get noticed and become supported through national sports programs, which Canada has to maintain and grow.

I think Canada is in a good position with basketball fever clearly having made its mark after the Vince Carter glory days.

But at the same time just like Jamal Murray and Wiggins and Bennett are our young Canadian stars, the other countries could have any number of potentials stars appear in the next few years. No way to predict what happens in the 5 years let alone next year. Anything could happen, but yea I love the position Canada is in now.

Is the game being streamed on CBC? I don't see it on their streaming webpage currently.

FIBA rankings are based on last 8 year performances. I am not sure its even mathematically possible for Canada to be top 2 by 2020. 2024 is the year.

I dont get this either. You would think there would be plenty of NBA players who wants to represent USA, and this might be their only chance. I understand having few guys from overseas, but most of these guys on USA roster doesn't look right at all.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that and neither were the people I was talking to lol

It's going to be a good while before Canada can beat the top Euro sides (Spain, Serbia, France, Lithuania), these teams spend months of preparation time together. They are super well coached and know how to play as a team and have a system. Talent is not everything in FIBA, so many NBA player loaded teams have crashed out of tournaments.

I was just joking around with that quote, and I too agree he will go too high for the Raps to have a chance at drafting him, but I don't think it will be because of this tournament. The talent level is just not good enough to evaluate (increase) draft status for any player.

Seriously? I know its not a bunch of marquee names, but that US team is better (talent, experience, skill) than almost all NCAA Div 1 squads. The Argentina guards play in the second best league in Europe and, again, are better than the majority of NCAA guards.

So I found Myck Kabongo for those who were wondering what happened to him...

http://www.thetournament.com/teams/overseas-elite

From what I gather the tournament is a 96 team sudden death elimination tournament with the winning team taking home 1 million bucks.

From what I gather Myck's team is in the quarterfinals today. Would be pretty cool if they won the whole thing.
