Goodness. I can remember Larry liking him back then right around the draft.
Good addition. We are now A LOT more athletic than last year. This should be fun.

Re: Woj: Pacers sign Glenn Robinson III to 3 year deal
While I like it, I was really hoping we'd get a backup PG. Either Bird really believes that Young can produce early on or that Ellis/Stuckey can do it, but I'm not sold on either.
I've gotta give it to Bird though, he's done exactly what I wanted coming into the offseason by adding a bunch of cheap young guys. So for the next two years at least, we have Solo Hill, Turner, Young, Christmas, Whittington, and GRIII locked up cheap. Quite a turnaround from just having Solo as the cheap guy.

Absolutely. He set a goal and a change of direction, and he went full bore at it. God bless him. A lot of flexibility of any of Young, Christmas, Turner, or GR3 turn out to be anything.

To me this signing is essentially Larry reclaiming one of the recent 1sts he gave away.

Did we? I really thought we'd stick at 14 after the Christmas deal unless we signed a third point guard. Now that roster spot is gone unless we trade Ian for one. Maybe they're counting Hill, Young, and Stuckey as three though. Oh, Ellis could be in that picture too.

I kinda figured that, already having Ellis, Stuckey was probably brought back with the idea that he could play at the 1 if we need him to.

I like the move. Another potential young talent that could grow into a good player. Frank has demonstrated that he can develop young guys so Im optimistic that a couple of these guys will become good home grown players.

I really think this means Ian will be moved for a point. Most likely packaged with Solo, cause I just dont even see him cracking the rotation. I was thinking a deal with Dallas for Devin Harris, but after them signing Daly today they have no need for Ian with Chandler, Zaza, and Daly.

Re: Woj: Pacers sign Glenn Robinson III to 3 year deal
All these cheap contracts do something for next offseason. I compiled the numbers for our 15 man roster at the moment for next year's offseason. Here's what I came up with.
1 Paul George - 18.1
2 George Hill - 8.0
3 Monta Ellis - 10.8
4 Myles Turner - 2.4
5 Ian Mahinmi - None
6 Joe Young - 1.1
7 Rodney Stuckey - 7.0
8 Shane Whittington - None
9 Glenn Robinson III - 1.2
10 Rakeem Christmas - 1.2
11 Jordan Hill - None
12 Chase Budinger - None
13 Soloman Hill - 2.3
14 Lavoy Allen - 4.0
15 CJ Miles - 4.6
Looking at my non official list, it looks like 11 players going into next offseason with about 60 million. Isn't 30 million the expected max contract? If the cap is 90 we will be insanely close to having that. All those cheap 3-4 year deals make that possible. I mean if even 2 of them hit as quality backups that's a win.
I don't know what PF would be available next offseason, but I wonder if they have someone they might target.

I hope Al Horford. Hard to see him leaving the Hawks, but you never know. Noah could be a bit of a buy low candidate. He could probably play for stretches with Turner and would be a great get provided he's healthy. I could also see going after Conley if things don't shake out great with this season (and George Hill was always the scapegoat before, so PG play may come up as an issue again, at least in terms of media/casual fans).
I'd be shocked if we're able to get someone major with all the teams who will have cap space, but we could be offering a pretty nice situation.

They not moving PG to the 4 for just a year. Expect PG to be our starter at the 4 in 2016 too.

And Horford could start at the 5 with Turner coming off the bench, and then get minutes at the 4 alongside Turner.

People really need to watch the interview again. The interviewer asked Larry about him saying Paul would play 'a lot' of minutes at the 4 and about Paul making sound like he didn't want to. Larry TRIED to cut him off to interject about saying Paul was going to play a lot of minutes at the 4 like he was going to argue the point. Then he also said "we will see how he feels about it". Which all got lost in the " Paul don't make decisions around here comment". I don't know why people are penciling him in as the starting PF.

Boy, that would be a Larry Bird dream, wouldn't it? If there's any big man in the league that could be most similar to David West, certainly seems like Al, even though Al's even better, right?

It doesn't matter who starts. What matters is who plays together the most minutes, and who finishes together. I would be willing to bet that if PG is only playing "limited" 4 minutes (which goes against everything everyone has said, even PG), he would be finishing games at the 4. If he's playing "many" but not "most" minutes, then who cares about the distinction, he'll still be playing PF for 15-20 minutes a night, and likely be playing it in our "best" lineups.

Assuming Glenn Robinson III is signing for a 3 year minimum salary deal with the last 2 years non-guaranteed, and we would have about $27.45m in cap space, with 12 guys signed. Assume a cap hold for our 1st round pick of somewhere between $1m and $2.5m, depending on where we select. We could clear another $1.4m by waiving Shayne and GR3 and their non-guaranteed salaries.
Now, here's the question. Solo Hill has an option for 2016-17 of $2.3m. We have to pick it up by the end of October, I believe. Is there a chance we could decline that option if he isn't looking good in camp/pre-season? That alone would put us likely into max salary space....
