This is not a tanking team anymore. Last year's was with guys on practical 1 year deals like all our minimum salary players (Price/Johnson/Jabari, Blue, Ellington, and the list goes on), Lin,Boozer, Jordan Hill and Ed Davis. Its unbelievable how disfunctional a team like that can be. Yes a lot of guys were playing hard, and there weren't much squabbles, but I think a lot of them were playing more for their careers than for the team. I think that was shown when they were celebrating so much after a win. A team that looks long term doesn't do that. Unfortunately, a guy that had a long term deal was right smack in the middle of that circus. Swaggy has always been more about himself than about the team. Pretty evident from that shameless triple double attempt a few years back. All in all, that team was reeking of rental throughout the roster.
But I feel better about our supporting cast this year. I believe we will have a different attitude this year compared to last. Even our picks are all on multi-year deals. As opposed to Lin and Boozer, we actually gave up something (a pick) to pick up Hibbert and in turn, he gave up something (trade kicker) to come to LA. Whats good about this year is also that the FO and Coaching staff seems to be intent in developing our young talent. While we were also trying to develop Clarkson and Randle last year, it was not even discussed that Randle would start. We are not trying to win with rental players but start giving major PT for our own long term guys.
Going back on topic, Young has to get into the program. With the spike, his contract won't look too bad the next 2 years. Hopefully it will look even better if he shows that he can perform and help this team get some Ws.
