From a talent standpoint, am I wrong to say Upshaw is probably already better than Sacre? Sure his conditioning is horrible but he pretty much hasn't been playing any ball this past year. I'm sure he could make great strides by the start of the season in that department. He may get lost on the offense and in NBA games but are we expecting much for the limited minutes he would get anyway? It seems to me there isn't much risk on taking him on as a project. If he kept out of trouble and stayed healthy, I could easily see him being a solid backup big in the NBA.

Right on the money. Sacre already 'peaked'.....hahaha. Upshaw is just scratching his potential. Why the delay on the signing ? I think Upshaw and his agent are waiting to see if Lakers are done getting players, as there might be more money left to sign a bigger paycheck??????

At this point, yeah I think it's wrong to say he's already better than Sacre. From what I saw in the SL, Upshaw might have had IMO the most miserable lateral quickness I've seen in years. He simply can't play in an NBA game right now IMO.

I don't think we need to worry about him getting more than the minimum. 30 teams passed on him twice in the draft, 29 teams also passed on signing him to a minimum contract after the SL. There's not going to be a bidding war for an undrafted rookie. I think if there's any negotiation right now, it's probably the amount of guaranteed money.

This is a question for anyone but I'm quoting you. Did Upshaw have the same lateral quickness problems in college or is it the result of his poor conditioning?

Yeah he looked like a sloth so I won't argue that. I didn't watch him in college so I'd like to know as well if it's conditioning or just a physical limitation. It did look to me like he was gassed half the time.

Yep it's hard to gauge since his college videos are him blocking shots and dunks. No clips prior and after those highlights. Would like to see a full game video.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
