Celtics offered Hornets 4 first rounders for Winslow...If offered to us would you take it

Post#1 » by TMIMITW » Tue Jul 28, 2015 4:50 pm

The Celtics offered the 16th pick, No. 15 (acquired in a prearranged contingency deal with the Atlanta Hawks), one unprotected future Brooklyn pick, and a future first-rounder from either the Memphis Grizzlies or Minnesota Timberwolves.

If they offered it to us would you had wanted Pat to take it?????

They did and we didn't. I'd rather have Winslow. Riley would have just traded those picks to ditch salary.

But the 2 future picks probably would have been top 10 (Nets and Wolves)

No. Winslow has potential to develop into a star and there's a reason Ainge wanted him so bad. You don't pass on that for players outside the lottery and some future picks that are in middle school or high school right now that will be mid to late draft selections.

TMIMITW wrote:But the 2 future picks probably would have been top 10 (Nets and Wolves)

The Wolves have one of the best young rosters in the league now and the Nets made some decent moves in the offseason. It depends on what year the picks being offered were set to trigger. If they were picks for any later than 2017 they definitely will not be top 10 because by then Wiggins, Towns, and LaVine will all be all-stars and maybe even Tyus Jones will be a good player. Maybe the Nets will be a top 10 but I think they will be one of those teams that will be stuck in a cycle of mediocrity. Good enough to be in the lottery or at the very end of it but not good enough to actually make noise in the conference.

Oubre + Vaughn/Rozier/Dekker/Portis + 2 future possible lottery picks including an unprotected Brooklyn pick? hmm .. does sound tempting. I'm assuming BOS would have taken back Rio & Bird in the trade, which would have made either Grant or Wright an option at 16 as well.

1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

No, Winslow is better than those future assets. Keep sleeping on him though it makes it more fun.

Quite enticing...

Would you trade those four picks for Wade's career? Hell NO!

But there's no guarantee Winslow will have as successful career.
I doubt Winslow will have a Wade-like career (top 3 all time at his position), but at the same time
Wade was never as good at 19 as Winslow. He was a bit of late-bloomer.

Ultimately I think Riley's win-right-now mode turned down that deal.
His career only has a few years left. If Riley was younger... idk.

What made Jordan to turn down that deal? (not for Winslow, but Frank the Tank)
Now that's a million dollar question!

We'd have used those four picks to ditch Rio and Bird.

I honestly believe we might have. Thank god the rule about trading picks in consecutive years exists, or we'd have absolutely 0 until 2025. Picks are trash to Riley for better or worse( its worse).

Nope, specifically cause of Winslow + the direction this team is trying to take. Now maybe if we were the Hornets... but, nope.

Imagine trading Wade for Kirk Hinrich, Mike Sweetney, Marcus Banks, Collision. even if Wade had the half career he has that trade still wouldn't be worth it.

i dont think anyone sleeps on Winslow, if anything he is getting a little overrated with all talk about him dropping to Heat like Miami just got better and younger version of Wade. Those picks C's offered are mostly mid-late 1st rounders which dont have a lot of value except for Brooklyn unprotected pick, but even them are trying to make playoffs.

A lot of people 'around here' are sleeping on him. It's ok though the unrealistic expectations that they had aren't Winslows fault.

"A lot of people 'around here' are sleeping on him. It's ok though the unrealistic expectations that they had aren't Winslows fault."

qjz123, The great expectations were started by Coach K comparing him to Dwayne Wade and By Pat Riley stating that Winslow has the "It"factor. Those expectations were NOT started by fans. It be nice to see Winslow live up to Coach K's and Pat Riley's expectations.
