"beta" is better when you're playing next to blake and cp3. those guys eat first, no matter what.

it's what jordan didn't understand and why he peaced out.

wassuphomeboy wrote:"Beta" all you want, but obviously his environment was far from ideal on the Lakers last year, and he still brings a lot to the table from a defensive and athleticism standpoint. I may be in the minority with this opinion, but I feel like he will be a huge upgrade at the starting SF spot. Barnes was good on defense but IMO he was also made to look better than he was by playing next to 4 starters who all commanded a ton of defensive attention. All we need for him to do is to hit open threes and play active defense, which I think he is very capable of doing, and in fact I think he may actually be a pleasant surprise on things like transition. Great value pickup.

You are absolutely correct. I'm also a bit disappointed with him since I thought he would turn out decent for the Wolves. I still would bet on him being underproductive, but let's see.

Complaining we need wings, complaining we need wings... We sign a wing, and some of us are still complaining "terrible signing".

I like this. It's for the vets minimum, he's a former 4th overall pick who hasn't quite found a place where he can thrive, he's got all the abilities to be a starting SF in this league. If Pierce can't start, he can, much better than Lance starting.

Good signing Clips.

It's become evident some posters like to complain for the sake of complaining.

Dawson's Projected NBA Position

Post#29 » by Ranma » Sun Jul 12, 2015 10:05 am

Dawson played power forward in college, but given his 6'5.5" height without shoes and 6'6.75" measurement with shoes, he might be more small forward even if he is currently lacking in the finesse skills. He has a good wingspan and standing reach but it's not a sure thing that he can handle the 4 spot more so than the 3, especially with his lack of bulk.

He's literally a quarter of an inch shorter than Draymond Green…but an inch shorter w/o shoes.
2 inches shorter on wing span but they share the same standing reach…both according to draft express

I wouldn't commit him to any position for the time being…just a 3/4 hybrid.
He'd probably have a tough time against a guy like Aldridge would could just shoot over him…but he could probably make life tough for a shorter PF like Griffin….

if he ever turns out to be anything on this level.

In the NBA he'll be a 3 unless he can play like Charles Barkley in his prime.

I agree. Yes he is short but there will still be plenty of times we can give him minutes at the 4. It's not about assigning him a position, it's about using him when the situation/matchup is right. The reverse also applies, he can easily be positioned at the 3 when he's up against slower/bigger SFs.

What position Dawson plays when he is in the game shouldnt matter. He will likely play a hybrid forward role, assuming we can provide enough shooting around him.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Athleticism and physical tools have never been the issue. Skill, consistency, effort, focus, not being passive in terms of trying to get to the basket (but it is also a skill issue in terms of poor handles and lack of great first step). Those are the things that have held him back. He should be a better player than he is, but he is what he is now and in the right role which he will get here, he can be fairly decent.

He should at least be a net zero player with the possibility of being slightly positive as a role player next to better guys.

It's not a terrible signing, it's a vet minimum signing to fill out the roster which is absolutely fine.

But Lance has done much more in the NBA than Wesley Johnson. If Wes was 25, I'd be much more sold on his potential. But he's 28, so basically this:
