Who will lead the team in scoring?

Not that it's a super-important question, but I think for the first time in a while it's up for debate, with Monroe gone.

Common sense may seem to point towards Reggie, but a lot of us seem to predict a large improvement from KCP and Drummond. The others are pretty much options just for **** and gigs, but it's not too crazy to think one of them could surprise us.

KCP could easily lead the team in PPG if he could make a good number of his shots. I voted Reggie, he's probably your best bet.

Chalk bet is Reggie. Can't see him averaging 20, but also can't see him averaging less than 17; can anyone else clear that bar? Maybe Drummond, and (IMHO) KCP is an even longer shot to improve THAT much. In fact, I could even see SVG & Bowers swinging a deadline deal for a pure scorer who would wind up with the highest PPG average if that's what they feel our team needs to make a playoff push. But still, at the end of the day, Reggie's probably a safe bet for this distinction at 18+ PPG.

Reggie - and I don't think it will be close. I'd be pretty excited if both KCP and Dre continued upward and were 15+ ppg. I don't think anyone else is going to play enough minutes to have a realistic shot of being our leading scorer.

We should expect very balanced scoring. We could have 5 or 6 guys in double figures with a couple more around 8-9 ppg, but Reggie should come out on top pretty easily unless Dre makes a big leap.

I was just thinking about how the points distribution will play out. Glad we have this thread now. I went with Reggie for the leading scorer due to the reasons other have stated. I'll take it a step further and put down some point predictions for the main rotational players:

1. Reggie Jackson - 18
2. Andre Drummond - 16
3. KCP - 14
4. Morris - 13
5. Jennings -12 (when/if healthy)
6. Ilyasova - 12
7. Stanley - 9
8. Baynes - 6


That's 100 pts - and I know I left off Tolliver but I think Morris plays most of the backup 4 minutes especially once Stanley establishes himself.

i think reggie is a shoo-in for this.

drummond is probably his biggest competition for it, i'll do a little projection for his scoring.

last year he took 11.7 FGA per game, which is the highest of his career (second was 9.5 in 2014). PER 36 it was even more of a jump from 10.6 in 2014 to 13.8 last year.

i doubt he'll play 36 minutes a game, but somewhere in the 34 minute-range isn't out of the question. this is about what he played when moose went down at the end of last year.

so i'm going to assume he shoots 13 FGA/G. for free throws i'm going to guess he shoots 6 a game. this is assuming a bit of a bump from what he's done in his career but he'll be left on an island more next year and i am assuming that will lead to more fouls on him. he's obviously not shooting any 3s.

now, the percentages. he definitely won't shoot what he did in his first two years, but i don't think he'll be as bad as last year. at the beginning of the year last year he was awful from the field which brought down his overall FG%. i'd say he'll shoot somewhere in between 52-54%, depending on how he develops with his post game. i'll put him at 53% for this exercise. free throws i'm keeping him at 40% until he shows better. it's always risky projecting improvement when a player hasn't shown potential in a certain area.

now to add it all up: 13 FGA/G @ 53% is 6.9 FGM/G, which is 13.8 points from the floor. 6 FTA/G @ 40% is 2.4 points from the stripe. added together it's 16.2 PPG.


it's still pretty early to do projections but that should give a rough idea of what to expect. personally i don't see dre averaging more than that unless he shows drastic improvement in the post during preseason.

KCP better step up this season. He should be better now that he is a 4th option on the team. I'd hate for him to just become a 3 & D guy. He can definitely create a shot for himself. I just wish it goes in more. If KCP doesn't take another step forward this season, I suggest trading him or Meeks for a better starting SG. he needs to work on his handles the most.

This is pretty simple in terms of who our 1st/2nd option are. The entire offseason revolved around complimenting Reggie/Dre.

KCP will be a 3rd/4th option in the offense, so if we get 14+ pts outa him that's a win. He'll never be the go to guy here and I'm not sure his game translates to filling that role in any competitive situation.

Our primary goal will be to continue developing Dre and that means touches, but half his baskets will still be garbage points and hack-a-Dre could limit his late game production. 18 & 15 is possible, but I feel safer going 16/14, which is pretty damn good.

Reggie will have the ball more than anybody and is the one guy we can really look to to create his own offense consistently. 18 & 9 feels right. He's probably capable of being in that 20-22 ppg range w/ 8 dimes, but I think overall we'll be better off if we're moving the ball a little better than that.

Good ball movement could impact Reggies assists since if we're reversing the ball to find the open shooter Reggie will get the hockey assist.
