Discussing top-4 in current UFC MW division

Post#1 » by Gregoire » Tue Jul 28, 2015 8:13 am

Weidman, Rockhold, Jacare and Romero... IMO most evenly matched and strong top-4 in any division.
How do you rank them? How you see odds in their fights with each other? IMO Weidman chances are over 50% with Jacare and Romero, Rockhold have the advantage with Weidman, but underdog with Jacare and 50/50 with Romero, Romero have the advantage with Jacare. What do you think?

Its not as easy as "Romero vs Jacare" or Romero vs whoever, you also have to consider that the next opponent of Romero will have the full power of gay jesus behind him now that Romero has blasphemed him on cable tv.

I really want to Google "Romero gay Jesus" so I can understand what you're talking about, but I'm at work right now.

It's dumb, but I'm holding on to the idea that Jacare could and would beat them all.

I think at one point it was actually true, but Jacare is getting up there, and I don't know where the balance between his physical decline and skill development has left him.

Rockhold on the other hand I continue to underrate. I think he's improved a lot, and he did beat Jacare in that weird fight.

Romero's wrestling base and power means he could beat any of these guys on a given night, but I wouldn't pick him to do it.

Weidman deserves the top spot right now, I just don't like him.

Weidman is number one until someone beats him. I'd put Rockhold second just because he has that win over Jacare, even though I don't know how I'd pick that today. I don't think who deserve what ranking vs. who I'd pick to win are the same thing here.

Also who says gay Jesus doesn't support Romero?

Why because he beat Anderson?

Great fighter, but I never find myself getting amped for his fights, even if I suspect they'll be close. There's something very workmanlike about his approach that I should like, in theory, but when he was coming up and had the "next big thing" label, I found it boring. He's the MMA equivalent of a salmon and wild rice dish in some crappy interstate restaurant that's rammed with blue hairs eating dinner at 4PM.

I don't really see this. I think its refreshing to see a 'next big thing' actually turn into the next big thing. Hell has the dude ever lost a round? I think Machida might have edged one, otherwise I don't believe so. He is great at every style, ktfo Anderson after training standup for like 5 years, beat Machida standing for 25 minutes, etc.

This + :usa: + Jesus.

He seems like a guy who would say "you know, I think Donald Trump raises a lot of good points."

Don't tell me you don't want to see Trump stay in the presidential race. The SNL skits alone would be worth it.

Jokes aside, watch Weidman's takedowns on a highlight or something. He has probably translated his wrestling to mma as good or better than anyone I've seen. When he shoots, he doesn't drag people down sloppy, he hits double legs, etc. in the center of the cage which is hard to do at his level. He may be the best in the sport at it.

Weidman's MMA wrestling is better than Romero's one?

I think I've actually seen Romero fight twice, once when he beat Machida and once when he lost to Tim Kennedy. :)
