Yeah, he had bigs in Boston but none with remarkable talent and in Philly every coach in the Iverson era had to figure out how to build an offense around him.
When initially hired here I'm guessing the idea was to get the floor spread so Jermaine would have more room to operate. Later he might have liked to use Granger at the 4, certainly did it more than Frank. But I don't think Granger was particularly happy when he was employed that way. The thing that Frank recognized was that the personnel he had and the way they wanted to play screamed being big and physical. Once David West joined up it was truly a no brainer.
I don't think Vogel is tied to playing a particular style philosophically. He's simply had some success with the "smash mouth" style utilized over the past couple seasons. The reason for optimism this time is that the personnel and the system seem to fit.
