Jordan Hill - reckless driving
Not heard/read much about this yet, but thought it was worthy of a thread none the less. Apparently Jordan Hill has been arrested on a reckless driving charge. Not good, not good at all.

Re: Jordan Hill - reckless driving
New Indiana Pacer Jordan Hill is facing charges for allegedly driving recklessly in Atlanta.
Hill was reportedly clocked driving 107 mph. He was arrested on speeding and reckless conduct charges.
"We have been informed Jordan was arrested for allegedly reckless driving in Atlanta, Georgia. It is obvious we don't condone this. We will address this with Jordan. This is a major concern of safety, not just for Jordan, but for others," Pacers President Larry Bird said in a statement.

Pretty stupid. At least there wasn't any reports of weed, alcohol, etc in the car, his system...etc.

Re: Jordan Hill - reckless driving
I have a feeling Hill won't see too much playing time after this incident. He's not that much better than Lavoy Allen, who seemed to always be ready to play even when given wildly inconsistent minutes. And Ian/Turner should be able to hold down most of the center minutes. Not that he won't get a shot at earning minutes, but he's started off on the wrong foot and he's definitely the type of guy who could have ended up in Vogel's doghouse anyways for missed rotations.

Re: Jordan Hill - reckless driving
107 miles an hour, what are the speed limits? 50? I think that is way too slow (having used the Autobahn numerous times in the past) but 107 is pretty much too fast as well.
I can only presume he bought a new car and had a play with it, if he pulled over appropriately at first notification than I wouldn't say this is a career-killing offence, has he apologised for being stupid yet?

Re: Jordan Hill - reckless driving
I doubt it will have any effect on his playing time (our other options at center are two rookies and a career backup) but I do think it will have an effect on the decision to give him another contract next year. Unless he will play considerably better than to be expected, it seems unlikely now he will return.

it's just a speeding ticket. you can be sure his car was searched and nothing was found. it shouldn't have any long term implications. how many of you have speeding tickets? I sure got my share when I was his age.

It's not just a speeding ticket, it's also reckless driving. That's nothing horrible either under lots of circumstances, but it's not a good start to his time as a Pacer. And with so many young guys on the team who are just getting their first checks, I'd expect the team to set a precedent.
I still think the starting center job is Mahinmi's to lose in camp. He can play up tempo just fine and gives us interior defense. And ultimately, while no option is clearly better than Hill, we have a lot that are comparable. So imo any little thing is going to hurt him.

Sill, having Pacers players arrested is like.... such a reminder of one of the worst times in our team's history. One that hasn't entirely disappeared from the team's image in the public eye. Even if it's something fairly minor, it is still important. The Gold Collar, Blue Swagger crew did a lot to increase the popularity and appeal of the team, but it had to work slowly to build that support from the public back up again, and it worries me that even small incidents could have a major impact in the wrong direction.

Probably some kind of crazy expensive car he was paid $9 million last season. 107 is pretty fast even if the speed limit is 65 that's still 42 over and that gets you tossed in the slammer. I have a 2008 Crown Vic Police Interceptor, now it will get up and go top speed is rated at 140, I had it up to 100 once and not for long just to see what it could do. It had a lot more if I'd wanted to get stupid. Most of the time I stay at the speed limit, but it's nice to blow past an 18 wheeler or some blue hair driving slow.

and I had one of the first 240Z's in Indy. I could get it up to 90 with a gear left to go. which doesn't make what I did or what he did smart, but I expect it to blow over.

Re: Jordan Hill - reckless driving
I suspect me and some of the other Dutch guys we have knocking about, are the only ones to have driven on the Autobahn. I hit 140 mph (200 kph conversion done in head...) in our Volvo 850 R without a problem and I never felt uncomfortable.
107 really isn't a massive speed, but then I appreciate that US laws are pretty strict on speed. I am not trying to justify what he did, but let's keep some focus here. He drove too fast. He wasn't under the influence of alcohol (which is unforgivable imo) nor had he done drugs.
I don't really see a big issue here. He needs to be reprimanded internally (no doubt happened) and apologise publicly (probably happened, I don't know) and that should be the end of it.

I'm not saying what he did was bad by any means. Everyone has sped before and, like you said, 107 isn't insane by any means. It's the reckless driving part that's more of an issue and the reason he got arrested (which wasn't really that bad either from the video). And personally I could care less what he does with his own life, but he's in a position where he'll be competing for minutes with guys who are just as good as he is or close to it and any little thing will hurt his place in the depth chart.

As long as he didn't put other people in harms way then it's really not a big deal. Stupid? Maybe. Does it make him a bad person? Not at all.

I think there is a pretty good case to make that driving recklessly, weaving in and out of afternoon traffic going at least 30 mph over the speed limit does put people in harm's way. I am not saying it's the same as drunk driving, but there is a reason one can get arrested for it.
But I am less worried about the act itself than I am the PR that Pacers players are out getting arrested again. The general public and the casual fans, the people the team needs to sell the majority of its tickets to, still has n its memory the team that used to get arrested at strip clubs and carry guns more often than they won games. And most of those people have usually never owned cars that cost a fortune or driven on the Autobahn. They just hear "Pacers player arrested for...." and the damage is done.

He was going 107 in a 65 on US19 during the afternoon, and apparently "several drivers" called 911 to report him.
I would imagine, especially knowing that area of Atlanta and it's afternoon traffic, that he wasn't nearly alone on the road. I would imagine that he was weaving pretty heavily and barely avoiding clipping traffic. I would imagine it's the most dangerous kind of driving.
But yes. It's driving. And he wasn't under the influence, nor in the possession of anything. It's a very stupid thing. Not one that gets him waived, but it's bad press nonetheless.
