Re: 2015
a cyprus team went further than any belgian, greek or dutch team in recent years. i am fine with sacrificing everton or liverpool for some variety and inclusivity, at some point you gotta pay the price of your mediocre domestic performance and stop hoping uefa bails you out.

Im sure one of this years besiktas or Fenerb may win the turkilsh league and gala will have to go to the playoff round.
wonder if you would be pleased if the non champions route would match you up in that playoff against a chelsea, barcelona, juve that underperformed the previous season and thus see how gala falls while 6 or 7 teams that are completley undeserving and far worse than gala make it trough to the group stage.

Re: 2015
yeah if you are not better than fenerbahce and other second tier european teams, you have no right to complain about other teams that has less brand value than you. one, those "undeserving teams" could very well prove you wrong like apoel. two, i am sure there are some dipsh*t in merseyside that thinks every year their team is more worthy than every eastern european champion, you gotta draw the line somewhere.

Oh, you can be sure that the team that ends last and relegated in EPL or La Liga is better than half the champions in europe.

obviously since the last team in those league does not play in europe the next season..........
mmm wait.
some day it may happen that the last team wins the cup and plays uefa cup.
you will see then.

Re: 2015
thing is the best talent of all those league unavoidably joins teams in the top 7-8 leagues due to the damm bosman rules.
if some how uefa managed to convince the UE that footballers are not " regular workers" and went back to teams only being able to have 3 players that cant play for the national team where the team is based it woudl be absolutely different.
I wish they would make it so we could go back to the times where a Feyenorrd, Brugges, Celtic, Goteborg, Steaua , Red Star etc could be able to win the Cl or the Uefa cup. Or at least REALLy compete.

Chelsea v PSG v Juve v Athleti is very debateable. And none are truly on Bayern/Barca/Real's tier.
Hellcrooner wrote:MaliBrah wrote:3 teams that can win it , chelsea are part of that 2nd group. take city out the 2nd group and I agree with that too
chelsea won not so long ago.
they may be a bit behind the other three but they surely are over the second tier.
lets call them 1.5 tier.
In a flukier way than Mou's Porto. And have proceeded to not do squat since; BVB have achieved more in europe since that title than Chelsea.

He and No. 20 would get along very well. **** not sucking, if you've got a name casuals recognize, you're in.
El Turco wrote:meh dortmund isn't around this season, i dont see any of the german teams sans bayern getting 12 points in group stages like dortmund did. in fact one of wolfburg or bmg probably stumbles out in group stages due to inexperience. italy got plus 3.14 with napoli bouncing out before cl, assuming lazio makes it in that 5.33 is easily attainable.
Napoli entering the EL and making their run there was better for Serie A than if they had gone out in the group again, no? And they had a ton of teams going deep in that competition, the sheer number of teams having successful campaigns in europe without stumbling is tough to reproduce. So seeing them get less from the EL should come as no surprise.
Whereas the BuLi should see a boost from BVB being in the EL, alongside Schalke. Both clubs' european experience/coefficient should give the BuLi a serious boost as both should go very far in that competition and at least one should have a good chance at at least a semifinal there. And if they are joined by VFL or BMG from the group-stages of the CL, then we'll have a third team who should hit the QF or further in the EL. Though I'm waiting to see the draws on that one; cause if VFL gets a favorable group they can advance in the CL, and if BMG don't get a group of death I'm very excited to see what they can do. So I won't be shocked if all three of germany's non-Bayern CL-sides advance from their groups. Even if I can imagine anyone of them missing.
Of course these big teams can lay an egg and go out early at any point as they are not Bayern/Barca/Real, but if they do as well as they can/should germany should increase it's european tally next year, nevermind if Bayern win the CL in year three like they did in year three under Heynkes. Whereas only La Liga has topped Serie A's score from last season, and that's only happened in years where they won both competitions. So unless you're calling for a Juve CL title and one of those EL teams to win that competition it's unlikely that they don't see their score decrease for this season, even if the individual teams improve. Meaning the gap is likely to decrease, nevermind increase by the 2/3rds it would need to for the BuLi to actually get passed by Serie A.

that's false equivalency, you don't necessarily need to win the cups. italy would've passed spain last year without winning either cup if roma had beaten city at home.

I absolutley loathe the Champions route and non champions route B.S
What for? to get some underservin Azerbajan or Cyprus team on teh group stage leaving out stronger league ( belgium, turkey, greece, portugal, hollan sometimes even spain, italy or england if a horrible match up happens, for exmplae we could have arenal vs Valencia in the playoff) teams.
Well, this competition actually is the follow up of the Champions Cup which was a competition for Domestic League Champions only.
And Platini wanted to help out the Champions(and smaller leagues) by dividing qualification.
BTW: There's no way Arsenal(they're qualified already anyways) vs Valencia could happen in a playoff, as both are seeded teams. What could happen is Manchester United/Valencia/Leverkusen vs. Lazio.

I meant mufc and slipped but well any of tehm vs Lazio is enough of a bad case so the point is still valid.

Really? I thought Spain was way ahead since they constantly send 2 teams to the semis and have been great on the EL
