with that HR, YG has tied his best HR output ever.

except he's done it in less games and in a fraction of the plate appearances.
love that guy.

Him and Greinke…my favorite Dodgers.

Adrian Garcia, LasordasLair.com (8/2/15)
Maybe some have tuned out because there are way more interesting narratives to follow than a former steroid enhanced catcher becoming the team’s most irreplaceable asset, but really, at .292/.399/.516 he’s flirting with the most aesthetically pleasing thing in baseball, the .300/.400/.500 batting line. In today’s game, getting that production from a catcher translates to being about 59% above the league average which is impressive on it’s own, but after realizing that catchers around the league are hitting .239/.302/.376 (or a 87 wRC+), Grandal basically owns a line 72% better than what his peers are contributing.
...

Regardless, Grandal’s production this season has been very under-appreciated, cause just look at this

Latos looked good, but can't shake off the feeling that he was more luckier than good on Sunday afternoon. he got his only strike out of the game just after his only walk allowed of the game, both in the first inning. after that, it was a lot of ground out, line out, and flyout. Angels ended up leaving 5 LOB during Latos' 6 innings.I feel like BABIP was on his side but surely he needs to do better on SOs. otherwise, a fine debut.

Make that 7.

Now if our offense could stop trolling the fans and cash in on their opportunities.

this might just be a single game in a regular season, but Alex Wood is definitely looking like a legitimate top 3 rotational pitcher for any team.

it's an extremely small sample compared to his large body of work prior to the trade that brought him to the dodgers. I say this is an abnormality and stay patient with Jim J.

You're right. I was a little emotional and just wanted nothing but a straight shutdown from the pen tonight.

Baez was sharp as hell tonight…wow.

Can anybody tell me why the hell he sits Puig every 2 days or so?

It's annoying. We obviously need to get the kid going.
He goes 2-4 yesterday with a HR and the very next day he's sitting.

Put Ethier in LF and let's see if the kid can put some hits together.

The Problem with Yasiel Puig

Post#159 » by Ranma » Thu Aug 6, 2015 9:25 pm

Puig's problems stem from his taking his spot on the roster for granted. His lack of focus and discipline comes from his heavy dependence on his physical talents and aggressive nature to see him through. I've said before that I want the Dodgers to put him on notice and limit his playing time with the aim to turn the light bulb in his head.

The special treatment he received and lack of enforcement of clubhouse rules and codes he's flouted has come home to roost. In order to reach his full potential, this stallion has to be broken before he can be a worthy racehorse. Yasiel is starting to see it, but he needs to further commit. He continues to make base-running mistake and his approach to the plate continues to lack discipline. Hitting a homerun off a hanging pitch from Aaron Harang, while welcomed, is not really that impressive given his tools.

I'm absolutley fine with giving opportunities to other Dodgers outfielders and implementing a more merit-based system of rewarding playing time for production and conduct.

Mark Saxon, ESPN (8/6/15)
A bit less playing time might be something Puig has to get used to, manager Don Mattingly said, because the team would like to get Carl Crawford more playing time and Andre Ethier has provided the most consistent offense from any of the outfielders.

"I think the days off are good for Yasiel, honestly," Mattingly said. "I don’t know if he was just used to playing less games in Cuba, but his focus just seems sharper when he’s getting a day-off-a-week or something like that."

yeah I didn't like the way Puig's facial expression was signaling his displeasure while sitting on the pine earlier in the game, but I also think Crawford has no business starting for this team other than being a spot starter to give the other guys rest. my god the way he fielded that booming flyball as Greinke was desperately in need to stop the bleeding, was shaky at best. I really thought he was gonna botch that catch. glad he got it but it shows how limited he is now defensively, and because of his weak arm, he can't play any other OF positions sufficiently other than the LF. you talked about merits, and I just don't see any merits Crawford has to start over... anyone on the roster including SVS. even when he batted .300 last season, his OPS was 767. SVS was better than .900 during the same span. Scott slipped quite a bit this season and he is still better than Carl's last .300 batting season's OPS. I do understand that Carl comes from the organization and had the most success when Andrew Freidman got his feet wet with the Rays, but the only logical explanation of him getting playing times now is to showcase him and hope he catches a hot streak so we can pay most of his salary and dump him else where when he has only two years left on his contract next season.

god I hate all these Ned Colletti's litters of droppings. **** after **** contracts... but we will clear them all soon...in about two years. I can't wait when Seager and Urias are our next faces of the franchise and there is no more dead money paid not to play for us.
