That's quite extreme. Dickey is also past the average ML retirement age, and was when we traded for him. Price is in his prime, and is AL East proven.
I don't see why people are bashing Price. I like the trade, even though I do think it was a bit rich.
Halladay age 21-29 =
9 seasons, 1336.1 IP, 3.62 ERA, 942 K's, 3.61 FIP, 4 AS appearances 1 Cy
Price age 22-29 = 8 season,
1375.1 IP,
3.12 ERA,
1296 K's,
3.24 FIP,
5 AS appearances 1 Cy
Price is easily the best pitcher in recent memory (including Hallday) to pitch in a Jays uniform. If we manage to resign him, it could be well worth what we gave up in prospects, despite paying market price for him after 3 months. Especially if it gives us a chance at a playoff appearance.
How did Halladay pitch in the 7 years leading up to his retirement in his age 30 season and beyond?
Halladay age 30-36 = 7 seasons, 1413 IP, 3.17 ERA, 1175 K's, 3.19 FIP, 4 AS appearances 1 Cy
Just saying it's not unreasonable to expect Price to put up similar numbers the next 7 years.
