That's quite extreme. Dickey is also past the average ML retirement age, and was when we traded for him. Price is in his prime, and is AL East proven.

I don't see why people are bashing Price. I like the trade, even though I do think it was a bit rich.

Price is easily the best pitcher in recent memory (including Hallday) to pitch in a Jays uniform. If we manage to resign him, it could be well worth what we gave up in prospects, despite paying market price for him after 3 months. Especially if it gives us a chance at a playoff appearance.

Yup. I looked it up the other day. He'll turn 30 later this month and I couldn't find any info about a wife or kids. That little girl he tweeted about was his niece. I think he may have been married before but got divorced. I read about a long-term gf that he had but that article was from 2014. From what I could find he didn't have a whole lot of attachments.

During an appearance on Tim and Sid Tuesday, the pending free agent was asked if the reception he has received so far from Blue Jays fans alters his perception of what he’s walking into in Toronto and whether he could see himself in the city on a long-term basis.

To which he responded: “Absolutely.”

“Whenever you win it doesn’t matter what you’re making,” the 2012 AL Cy Young winner added. “It makes the food taste better, it makes water taste better, it makes you be able to sleep better at night. "no way in hell is it a possibility…" he's giving a standard answer here folks… remember when bosh said almost much the same thing? and yet we all know he already had one foot out the door… let's stop kidding ourselves and pretend that we have a legitimate shot… he's here for the season, let's just accept it and try to enjoy this run we're making… i hope we make the playoffs and beyond and price will be a big part of that… but we gave up some prospects for a rental it is what it is… stop trying to convince yourselves it's gonna be anything more than that… yes it's possible he re-signs here, but it's also possible if not more likely that he signs in any other city… i'm still not gonna regret the move because i think it would be stupid to waste the best offense in baseball...

They had Price go Monday so he could face the Yankees twice this coming week, so he will go Saturday at Yankee Stadium and then the following Friday at home against the Yankees (August 14).

I agree, but I think it's also clear now that the Jays are special, this team has a legitimate shot at a WS. Many of the players are young (Stroman, Travis, Sanchez, Osuna, Pillar, Hutchison, Goins), with others: Donaldson (29), Tulo (30), Martin (32), EE (32), Jose (34), Buehrle (36), Dickey (40). So maybe our young players will allow us to contend beyond this season, something that Price listed as a key component in signing anywhere in a recent interview.

I also think Price is far more intelligent than he lets on. I feel like he simplifies his questions. I totally agree with that.

Add Dumbrowski to the mix, some playoff success, and I think we have a legitimate shot. It'll be heartbreaking if he signs elsewhere, that's for sure.

Yup, Friedmann. There's a lot to attract Price to LA and an established relationship with the GM certainly helps. From a strictly baseball standpoint, if I'm Price, I'm also looking at joining a Kershaw/Greinke rotation and salivating at the prospect of that. But, hey, maybe Price doesn't want to go to the NL because he doesn't want to have to hit. So, then he looks at the AL and teams with money that could sign him probably only include the Yankees, Red Sox, and maybe the Angels/Rangers (depending on how much more their owners want to spend on big FAs). As long as Price doesn't end up in the AL, I don't care where he goes.

I think I'm even more pessimistic than you. What if, AA's bags are already packed? I suspect he will have other options in the off season-- he is clearly regarded as a brilliant baseball mind and he is loyal to beeston. Who's to say AA wants to work for crazy rogers and Dan Duquette or whichever snake they slither in through the back door.

This no regard for the future thing is scary.

With rogers inconsistent purse strings and without our minor league system producing players consistently, the jays will forever be hard pressed to consistently and truly compete.

That's quite possible. I also wonder, with the murmurs that AA was getting pressure to truly go for it, whether Rogers may have laid down the gauntlet...they're tired of spending $120m-$130m US on losers, and intend to drastically reduce it next year unless we make bucketfuls of coin this season. In which case, even a playoff appearance might not forestall a rebuild.

Honestly, I don't think it's all doom and gloom; it looks like we are still firmly nestled into our 2 year window of contention.

As Kurtz mentioned just after your post, there are a ton of FA SP's available this offseason. I bet a guy like samardzija will get a similar contract to James shield; which would be palatable for the jays.

If we can sign a second tier ace and find another Estrada or happ type to compliment hutch and stro we are well on our way to a proper rotation.

And if it goes to hell next year; we can always flip our star hitters for somebody else's Hoffman and Norris.

I mean what the heck, the future might be a bit rocky, but the presents going to be a lot of fun!

For real, regardless of how I feel, if Price is pitching Sunday, I'm going to the ballgame.

So AA who basically schooled the previous cba, turned the worst farm system in baseball into the best in basically 2 years, than immediately sold high on all those prospects and schoooled the rest of the league again-- gutting the system and ending up with a video game lineup; Has basically told Rogers, good luck with this Shapiro guy and his top notched work renovating stadiums, I'm going to take a year off and sell high on myself.
