Suns Offseason Thread 4: Where's Terrence Williams?

If I am McD I say "no way Kieff. We know what kind of player you are and we are not giving you away. If you want out of here you better play well enough for us to get a good offer. Otherwise you can sit on the end of the bench or be suspended for contract detrimental to the team."

I also believe that the most realistic scenario would be Kieff for Ilyasova. If indeed, Kieff wants out, SVG seems high on Marcus that he may want to trade for his brother. They envision Marcus as the starter and a 'mentor' to Stanley so they could have Drummond and the twins at the front court. Meanwhile we'll have a rotation of Ilyasova, Teletovic and Leuer as our stretch 4's.

Ilyasova still fits, I think. He's just 28. Kieff is locked on a much better contract so Detroit ought to add a sweetener but then again this news of Kieff wanting out hurts our chances of getting a fair deal. Kieff for Ilyasova seems about right. I say do it for chemistry and maybe a Cinderella-run built upon good synergy and players knowing their role.

SVG and the Morrii would be a whole lot of fun. I want it to happen for non-basketball reasons.

Celtics fan here, what about Sully and Evan Turner for Markieff and a future 1st?

How about we reward you with Tucker instead of that future first ? :D

I think looking at trades in isolation means you can win trades but not make the team better. Looking at what makes this team better, and I think it's getting the best available SF and PF to upgrade our starting 5.

So who are the upcoming FA on expiring contracts who fit that bill:

SF - Batum, (Deng maybe)
PF - Anderson, (Ilyasova maybe)

You have Morris, Tucker and literally 10 other fringe pieces to get a deal done for 2 expiring contracts.

Bledsoe, Knight, Batum, Anderson, Chandler.

They would be 5 of the best players not in the All-Star game, and I'd say that line up if fit makes playoffs easily.

I am sooooo high on Mirotic but he and Butler look like the future for the Bulls. I have no idea why the Bulls would do that either. I guess Chicago is closer the Detroit than Phoenix, so the twins can be close together.

Because some posters think that's fair value because Mirotic has a streaky rookie season and is relatively "unproven". Chicago might counter-offer with Gibson

I would take Gibson in a heartbeat. He would immediately become maybe the best or one of the very best defensive PFs the Suns have had in franchise history.

Given how well documented Chicago's insane love for Taj is, we think they're for some reason going to trade him for a potential felon?

Man, if the Celtics bail us out of this situation I might have to start liking them. Don't see an immediate need to get rid of PJ. He's a good player for what he's been getting paid (albeit a questionable professional). I would do that in an instant... using Cleveland's first.

Then we could start worshipping Sully's godly ass.

For the sake of comparison... very similar players.

Kieff's trade value may be at rock bottom but some people are vastly underrating what Kieff is worth. Sullinger? I don't want a PF that shoots less than 44%. 28% from 3 so he primarily plays inside and shoots less than 44% and is a fat ass. I don't think we could get Mirotic, but we should hold out for a deal like that or something close to it. Gibson is good but again, he doesn't really fit next to Chandler and we would have the worst scoring frontcourt in the league. Add Tucker to that and who is going to score? You want our PGs taking all the shots?

The fact someone suggested Markieff for Sully and a first is absurd. Sullinger is shorter, 35 lbs heavier, far less athletic, shoots primarily from inside, and still only hits 44%. Those are not numbers that help lead you to wins.

If we get Taj, Teletovic can start over him for offense-defense balance and spacing. Then Taj and Len comes off the bench...just wow what a defense they would provide. And Len can create a little space for Taj also.

Lol cmon bw... they have the exact same 2P%. Sully just shoots 3s at a higher volume... it's not hard to tell a bloke to stop shooting as many 3s, so his FG% can be higher and fans can rate him better. And he rebounds.... which Keef is afraid of.

The biggest problem is he gets paid next offseason and that could mean anywhere from $10M-$17M depending on how well he plays. Kieff well and truly eclipses him on that front.

No, thanks. I'd rather keep disgruntled Keef. Don't forget that Sully is a head case too, with some serious injury problems in the past.

That might work

looking at Philly....I'll take rights to Saric and a pick, plus a chunky TPE for Keif and a boot in the ass.

I think we should be looking to improve not just replace.

If you think a player is out of reach, we have 5 firsts by 2018 for a team where McDonough said 12 months ago we'd prefer to trade our picks as we had too many.

I'll likely change my mind 20 times over the next week, but right now, heck, why not. We can always put 5 out there that can 'overcome' any of Mirza's weaknesses:

Bledsoe / Knight / Tucker / Teletovic / Chandler

Knight / Weems / Warren / Leuer / Len

That's not a bad rotation, but point being, we could still field a decent team, and 'wait out' Kieff. McD and the FO really hold all the cards, and I believe they can prevent him from being around the facilities, right?

Kieff, to me, has two choices--'play ball' or 'pout'. If he becomes a distraction to the team, they just suspend him from team activities. If the FO does that, other teams will notice, and no one wants a player with off-field character issues AND a 'me first' attitude. If he chooses to swallow his pride, and actually works with the team and coaches, they can try to get him to a team that he'd prefer to play for, and by playing 'nice', he'll get starter minutes, prove his on-court worth, get past this assault charge, and by the trade deadline, he's a 'team player', free of all charges, and on a good contract. Then he's traded to a team and plays as a starter--everybody wins in this scenario.

If he chooses 'door 2' and pouts and causes trouble, he won't play and will be seen as a problem child, and thus won't play anywhere.

He doesn't want to talk to us or play for us, so think he's getting his way, while he makes 1m every 45 days.

Also, what is the point of looking not bad on paper, I mean I can understand Sarver wanting to get more people to come, but what incentive do we have as fans to be just ok for a while. Being happy existing may as well be losing.
