NY hasn't had "a sound" since 99. After them buildings fell, the spirit got sucked out the city & everything became a money grab, people just making music copying whatever was on the top of the charts.

NY ironically lost its sound once 50 Cent came through and basically destroyed all the NY rappers. It was so bad guys like French Montana (who was btw around right before 50 popped off with the Cocaine City tapes) had to make southern music to get spins.
The rappers around before the millenium hit (including 50 cent) survived and can still make records every now and then, but only Jay-Z and a few others are the only NY rappers who can make hits.
ASAP and them are really southern-influenced. The rest are underground in my opinion.

I haven't listened to yet but I hear Kendrick sending shots at Drake's way? I was just saying a week ago he never went at him directly I guess that's not the case anymore. If Kendrick did in fact come at him I think Drake may want to fall back a bit...

lloyd banks up through his debut album was fire.
Then he was stupid enough to leave his sophomore album out with a few groupies he was having a threesome with. His now unreleased album The Big Withdrawal wasn't too bad. But after that leak, he changed his voice, switched his style up too much, ditched the punchlines (and can barely hear them now cuz his voice sucks),
He was content on being 50's wingman..... too bad of him
yeah never understood the style change when he was the best at what he was doing at the time.
I still remember some of his punches on the Hunger for More. First time I heard "If that's your man warn him, cuz there's enough bullets in here to hit every nba patch on him" I remember one of my boys spazzing hard.
I still remember bumping Lamborghini Lloyd all the time:
"I heard all the talk but refused to play a part/
In beefin wit a **** that was on change of heart/
I spun the wheel of fortune got the Vanna White Challenger/
Still on the stage with the hammer like Gallager"
Lloyd was amazing back in the day. But... He's from Chicago so I don't like y'all claiming him here. NY is held down by the underground since NY radio doesn't play them. Flatbush, Pro Era, Underachievers, Bodega Bamz, Bishop, Your Old Droog, and Chinx (RIP). Not bad but they get no play.

Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread IV
like i said, what will happen. drake is a bird for starting a philly war. There will some form of bloodshed, and Drake still wont take care of Ar-Ab. Drake thought it would be cute to bring Ar-Ab in this, thinking it will remain some rap ****. Drake wont be in Philly, but now two Philly crews will be at each other. There was some form of tension, but there was respect there...now its no more respect. So I already know what happens next.

Man Kendrick just say his got damn name. That's the only way you'll get a response from him like Meek did. i don't think Kendrick vs. Drake is as one sided as people make it seem. Drake is clever man. He finds ways to win when he shouldn't. He'll probably be of the view of he needs to focus on his album which makes sense but, I think it would do so much more for his legacy to send shots at Kendrick and win. This meek stuff pretty much guarantees 3 peat right?

IDK because I was saying both Meek and Common would wash Drake too and he held his own with Common (still loss) and is bodying Meek. Drake can rap when he wants to.

I tempered my expectations years ago. I knew he was probably never topping 2001 even when Detox was first rumored and when it never happened/ the tracks that were supposedly from it were underwhelming I dropped my expectations more. It's a pretty good rap album with good production and some nice guest appearances. It's definitely not a classic by any means but it's good for what it is. I really wasn't expecting anything better to be honest and I think the fact that nobody really knew this existed until a few days ago didn't allow me to get too hyped up with anticipation. The way I look at it, it's a Dre album that sounds pretty good and has some nice features. It's good enough for me considering it didn't look like we'd ever get one.
